I'm really not worried about this whole ordeal. They get my Card info. So what? the chances of them using my card at all is around 75 Million to 1 and even if they use my card I only have $12 in the account and my account is set up to where it can't over draw so they can't do much with that.

Seems like people are getting their emails now. I got that Sony email last night... That doesn't seem too promising.

that would be unfortunate...luckily that is not the case...if they took info in alphabetical order then i would be much more toward the end but who knows with these hacker people...

There was another update a few minutes ago on CNN, and the analysts (for once) kinda seemed to know what he was talking about hehe.

He even gave actual props to Sony for reacting strongly (hurting their own revenue) by cutting down everything as soon as they realized what was happening instead of applying band aids and tip-toeing around the issue, and rebuilding everything from scratch to have a much stronger security in the future.
The guy said he was with Sony on the phone a few minutes before his report, and they still couldn't give any time frame for the return of service.

And this kind of info can be stolen everywhere you use your cards. The one time I had CC fraud was when a kid at the mall took my number from when I was buying Christmas gifts and was using it for 1 900 numbers. I got a phone call from my CC company's fraud department telling me they found the fraud, I didn't even have to do anything. Phishing way down the road to steal my identity is what I am worried about. I can dispute charges and get a new CC number.
And that is the bigger problem. Everyone needs to remember that no company will ask you to verify your personal information through an email, phone call, etc.

Did everyone get an email about the Epsilon breach earlier in the month???

http://www.fastcompany.com/1744738/t...rried-or-bored

This is another type of breach were future phishing is going to be the possible risk, much later down the road.

Well that'll be tested soon enough. They already know "Anonymous" intends to attack them as soon as the PSN goes back up. And if this attack was not "Anonymous" then that's another enemy they have to worry about.

What to expect is an email or call leading to an official looking website that is not what it seems.

I saw that swirling around, but is that officially from them? I am seeing that in forums, don't know if the source is real.

There have been several industry experts applauding Sony. On the other hand they are questioning Amazon's response. Some fear that Amazon's future in the cloud computing may not be so bright.

This is just throwing it out there, but does anyone know what security firm was contacted by Sony to assist them once they discovered that customer's information was compromised?

Mind you, this isn't a need-to-know-so-I-can-use-it-as-an-attack-point type of query, just honestly curious.

There were a few links to it. "Anonymous" declared that this attack was not them but that they would be attacking Sony again once the PSN was back up.

I really just took myself out of this "war" for now. I have no idea about a lot of this stuff and don't want to. I just want to play my games and know the money I work for is safe in my account. Until Sony isn't fighting with hackers day after day after day I'll be doing my online gaming on XBL. Yeah it costs money, but as far as i know, Microsoft (at least in regards to 360/XBL) hasn't been targeted repeatedly by multiple hacker groups.

Yup. Because Microsoft's answer to hacking was if you were detected on the XBL, you'd receive the instant banhammer. In a way, it would've been interesting if Sony had gone that route now that I look at all of this in hindsight. But oh well...

But that's what it should be for that offense. You bring a modded console online (and I've played against one before on PSN I know it) you get removed. Simple.

This is way worse than modded consoles. This is the financial information of millions of users.

I need to say this and then I think I'll move on from this thread.
This is a quote from a security analysis about this situation, who also has been following this as it's been unfolding.
" Such a broad breach of consumer information is rare because most companies take precautions to separate contact information from credit card data so that only parts of any customer's profile can be accessed from a single attack".

This is the biggest information breach of it's kind plain and simple, this isn't a few thousand people or even a few hundred thousand, this is seventy seven Million people's information taken.
This isn't going to make me Not play my PS3 anymore once it's network is back online. It happened and there's nothing we can do about it but just make sure we are all very careful about phishing e-mails that will be coming ( They will come, not immediately but they will come) and also track your credit card purchases.

I had my ebay account breached years back but the only thing they could do was post a few hundred items using my account, they couldn't touch my cc info because it was stored somewhere else along with all my personal information.

A Sony rep has stated some parts of the network will be up within a week.
