Welcome to the joy that is Grindhouse Video. Mike is a great dude and his staff are excellent people. Always speedy shipping, mint condition product, and eager to answer questions over the phone and help out when there's an issue.

Both Drive and The Witch are among Second Sight's most impressive work to date and while the Drive LE set is wonderful, it's also very pricy so the one you have will do just fine. That Witch LE is, imo, just as spectacular as the Drive LE and it'll be a great piece to cherish for a long time to come because there's just about zero chance of a better release coming around for that one.

Hey thanks for the comments! My first order, which was the Drive UHD, came yesterday in a sturdy box with bubble wrap. Mint condition so for my first order they are 1 for 1. I placed the order for The Witch UHD yesterday, and that looks like a beautiful package, I can't wait.

I'm always happy to support the smaller movie companies because we do order from amazon, best buy and the big retailers more than I would like to admit. I did try to order from Shout a couple years ago (Man in the Iron Mask blu ray) and they weren't as good to be honest. They said they had it in stock, then they didn't and said backordered after over a week so I had to cancel. Not the greatest experience. I'll try them again though, but I know there are others like Diabolik I want to try as well if they have the movies I am looking for, but so far at the very least Grindhouse Video has gained another customer

DiabolikDVD is just as good as GHV in every way, but they get a ludicrous amount of orders so shipping isn't quite as fast as GHV but it certainly doesn't take forever either.

Shout is weird about their stock. They won't list an item as backordered until it's way too late and people have already ordered it thinking it's in stock. They also ship in those shitty cardboard envelopes if you order just a few releases so there's a good chance you'll get something damaged. The only good thing about Shout is that they do partial shipments, but that doesn't make up for them dropping the ball where it really matters.

I'm excited for you to get The Witch. I'll be getting Dog Soldiers LE from Second Sight today, myself.

I just got The Witch today; ordered Friday and got it Monday so pretty pleased with that. 2 for 2 for Grindhouse Video. This package looks really nice indeed and has that premium feel to it with the nice box, the cards and I can't wait to read the book with it not to mention watch the film.

Excited about this version of the movie. I've had the Blu-ray but you guys really seem to like the UHD Blu-ray version of it so much I decided to buy it.

I normally don't buy 2K up-scales, but it seems from what I've read like they really did do a wonderful job with this release.

I'm late to this conversation... I have an Oppo UHD player. Do I need to worry about region coding? Where are all of you buying this disk? I saw it on Amazon fro $59.99 and that seems steep

Too bad there's no review I can find. I have the original Blu-ray and I'd like to know comparison wise what's the difference.

I think originally the source is a 2K digital intermediate. So the UHD version is a upconvert.

If you thought the UK version looks hardly improved on the link. Remember the screenshots are only in SDR and not HDR. The UK version looks much better on my big tv and in HDR. Remember that. It will more than likely look better on your tv too.

Thanks for that. I really don't know what to think about the comparisons. First I can tell in about 99% of the images there is no extra detail at all. The one with the race car looks like I can see more digital noise which can take the place of film grain but in most cases, the highlights have been toned down slightly. Along with that brightness levels were decreased ever so slightly preventing blow out in specular highlight, and in a couple of other samples...one example with the strippers watching the action; due to the decrease of contrast the light bulbs look less realistic and there's a decrease of color saturation.

Other inside shots have a decrease of color saturation making things look like they have less contrast. Take the still of the knifes, they tend to now have less detail due to less color saturation.

But what one is more correct? Overall, I'm not even sure if this is worth upgrading from regular Blu-ray. Highlights have been toned down which in most part I think benefits highlight details but some inside shots look brighter but not necessarily better.

At this point it's going to take someone with side by side real world comparison on calibrated monitors with actual live playback of both disc versions of the movie to see if there's really any improvement...if one transfer works better to tell the story better than the other.

OK, thanks for the update. As I was looking over the different examples (I looked at almost all of them!) you were typing this message. I will for sure keep what you said in mind, in fact now I'm sure there's probably a really big difference in how it looks. Most of the probably due to HDR more than anything as I know there is in no way any extra detail to display.

The extra digital grain in that one race car shot, I'm sure it's also on the regular Blu-ray, but it's probably simply easier to see on the UHD Blu-ray version for what ever reason...possibly because of better compression/bandwidth.

Thanks for the info!

You're welcome. Yes, buy the disc. If i knew it wasn't upscaled to 4K, i would have thought it was real 4K quality. Yes, it looked that good on my tv.

I already have it. After looking at the screen shots you pointed out, I felt like it was not worth the money but after reading what you pointed out, now I'm looking forward to it even more. I've got a ton of movies I still need to watch so it's going to be a while before I see it but I am looking forward to it!
