I'm not offended, in fact I think it's too bad you couldn't enjoy the film like others did, but I seriously don't get the point of continuing to post here.
Dude I liked the movie. Im speaking in general.

Oh... I see what you are saying. I typed in a rush and could not check the spoiler box on my phone. Yes, it "weighs" less. The charger is bloated crap.

LOL, I mentioned that when I saw the it in the theater. I guess it's not as much fun when the lead car has a 3 block lead on the chase car

It's just that the people that didn't like the movie feel obliged to spread their opinion wherever they can because they're far out-voiced by the people that DID like it.

At least the thread appears to be past the 10 or so pages of people drooling over the FS Exclusive Slip Cover.

Anyways, both of them walked out LOVING it and telling me how good it was. And I was left pissed off cause I wasn't invited for the one good movie they go see!
My parents hated it. They thought the violence was sickening. The Mad Libs version: a man has his hand
[Show spoiler]smashed
with a
[Show spoiler]hammer
and is forced to
[Show spoiler]swallow
a
[Show spoiler]bullet
, later he's
[Show spoiler]stabbed

with a

sliced open; a
[Show spoiler]woman's
head is blown
[Show spoiler]apart
by a
[Show spoiler]shotgun
. It's not as violent as films like Irreversible, I Saw the Devil, or A Serbian Film, though. More on the level of A History of Violence - brief but realistic.

8 or 9.

I think that's an American phenomenon, we're offended more by language and sex than violence. Although my parents are usually offended by language, they only mentioned the violence afterwards.

The violence is more shocking than in Hostel. It may not have as much in quanitity but it's more effective.

Here comes the expected hype backlash from casual moviegoers that blind bought it. If you can truly say it's the worst movie of the year or the worst movie you've seen in quite a while, you really don't know what you're talking about. The acting and cinematography alone are above average on an objective level. If you can't see how impressive it is from at least a technical standpoint, then it seems to be a matter of not being able to appreciate filmmaking on an artistic level.

I have no sympathy for people that were expecting it would be like Fast Five

It's an archetypical "fairy tale" as the director describes it. Driver is a mythical character.

A movie like this usually doesn't result in a it was decent reaction... its the type of movie you love or hate, which makes it hard to see where the opposite side is coming from. Personally i would rather have discussion from both sides then 300 pages of it was so good. Fact is you need criticism especially with a movie like this, as long as its expressed in a thoughtful manner and not just trolling for the sake of hate.

The more i reflect on this movie the more i realize just how much i liked it. Nice to have a pace that reflects more of what i watched as a kid, or many of the foreign films i catch that entertain me beyond what mainstream hollywood seems capable of these days. One thing for sure i am going to have to check out this directors catalogue as i have never heard of him before.

Voicing one's opinion is fine even if it goes against the grain. However I can't stand the people that voice it as matter-of-fact.

Bingo.

I couldn't agree more.

I can highly recommend Bronson, one of Refn's other films.

Yeah. I know they're polar opposite movies, but in terms of how people talked about it, and how well reviewed each is. They're both rated RT by critics at like 94% each.

It's fine to voice your opinion, just please keep it to one post about your hate unless asked why. And come with some real personal reasons rather than recycled pretentious critic response.

I was really hoping to see Driver
[Show spoiler]and the gangsters finalize the car and see him compete. And then have the trouble start. I was hoping for some super garish car that was powerful on the inside

I'm sorry but that is NOT a fact. It's not like Mr. Refn thought to himself, "I can't wait to get this movie out there and hope it's criticized!" The producers certainly didn't think that, either. I'm not trying to be a smart ass but there are many filmmakers out there that have idealistic mindframes where they hope to make the perfect movie or movie that gets universal acclaim. They don't strive for their films to be criticized, at least not for the targeted demographic of their films.

It's turned into the Tree of Life forum. With these two films, people are so easily offended if opinions differ from their own. As for myself, I blind bought it and intend to watch it tonight.
