I think you are getting way too worked up about this film. You didn't liked it, others did. You don't need to respond to everybody who likes it and remind them how terrible it was in your eyes.

This interview with Nicholas Winding Refn may provide some deeper insights into Drive…. which some folks may be unaware of, as well as revealing how the Director thinks about things -

I realize that much of cinematic appreciation is personal and taste-dependent but, I think that a standing ovation following its presentation at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival isn’t too shabby a thing.

I'm not trolling. It's clear this guy wants to call it a hipster movie, he's just beating around the bush and calling it that without directly saying it.

I loved Drive.

Maybe he had mental problems before that and the war experience pushed him over the edge. Doesn't really matter, the point is he is a real person and Taxi Driver is a serious movie about that kind of personality.

Drive is just adolescent fluff for people who fancy themselves into "artsy" movies.
Pure, unadulterated trolling right there.

Another example of someone who doesn't like a movie hanging out in a thread clearly about said movie and telling others how dumb they are for liking it when he did not. Just does not compute.

Default First viewing

I finally got a chance to watch Drive this weekend. I can understand why the Fast & the Furious crowd didn't like it because it didn't meet certain car chase/popcorn expectations. But, I also cannot say that I completely agree that the film is as brilliant as the crowd who does appreciate it has made it out to be.

For the first thirty minutes or so, I really enjoyed the pacing, and that a modern film had the sack to hold shots. When I started to realize that the movie simply wasn't creating the tension it hoped for, however, it just seemed like it was trying too hard to be different or evoke an old school feel that falls flat.

It might take multiple viewings, but for now I tend to agree that the movie is up it's own . . .

*Side note: audio track is great on this film

I haven't seen this film at all, but a friend from the U.K. is sending me the HMV steelbook edition of the film is really awesome. Then I asked a Canadian to send me the FutureShop edition so, pretty much, I'm getting two awesome editions of a film I haven't seen. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I notice that the films that usually create a love/hate split with the public are the films that I love most. Such examples are:

Vanilla Sky
Solaris
Drive
Mulholland Dr
Eyes Wide Shut
...etc

However, I do not like Tree of Life =(

From a technical standpoint this is one of the best-made movies in years. I can't see a single parallel between this and Pulp Fiction.
What a crock of sh!t! Where is the substance? Was there such depth in Gosling's god awful attempt to make it seem like he was a man of mystery? To me, he seemed like a half-wit the entire movie. That is simply due to the fact that he is a terrible actor. How is this movie "technically" great? The characters are all one dimensional caricatures, there is no dialog because the script is minimalist babble and the direction and cinematography are nothing more than homages to truer talent.

You're either trolling or haven't seen much of his work. My guess is the former.
