The book has a sequel... So it's fitting the movie will have one too

I agree, but the public wants its product flooded, and then complain afterwards.

Drive 2: In Outer Space
Drive 3: Take Manhattan
Drive 4: The High School Years
Drive 5: Clones vs Zombies
Drive The Animated Series

Drive Director's Cut: We should have left it alone, before it becomes a parody of itself ala The Matrix: Deluxe Edition LE Steelbook w/ Extras:

False Drivers License
Soiled driving gloves
Disposable broken cell phone
Used Toothpick
Sunglasses
Map of LA...taken from Google Maps
One empty can of STB
Broken wristwatch
Replica Police communicator

Well to be fair; two of those are SUPER HERO movies (yes, Matrix is too), and one is a sci-fi film. Both genres known for sequels and franchises.

Drive is neither. Its a great stand alone film.

Making a Drive sequel is the equivalent of treating it like a Transporter film

Has Criterion ever done this with a movie under three years old?

It seems like fans are jumping the gun.
They've done this with a few titles. They even do it for new releases (Hunger, Gomorrah).

But there isn't going to be a sequel (to the book there is though). Refn even said he wouldn't really do a sequel as he loves leaving the ending open to interpretation.

I thought Refn said he was interested in doing a sequel with Driver's "arch villain". He said something like that

Actually Ryan Gosling admitted this is his superhero flick.

Hahaa. I didn't know that. But still, did YOU think of it as a superhero flick?

Anyway, if there's a sequel, I'll go to the red carpet event and fight Refn. I'll get arrested, for sure, but I will have thought him a lesson and it would be well worth it

Your taking the quote to literal. Ryan Gosling never said "Drive is a superhero movie". He said it's like his superhero movie. He plays a heroic character by helping people and kicking some serious villain ass.

Given the nature of his "heroic" acts, I'm going to go ahead and say that he's an Anti-Hero.

Not as crappy as a prequel to The Shining IMO, which apparently is going to happen.

Oh yeah, the prequel called, The Overlook Hotel -

- but what about the sequel to The Shining called DOCTOR SLEEP?
S. King wrote the story of what happened to no older Dan Torrance as a grown up. I think THAT'S worse then a prequel

I think it would be interesting to see. I'm definitely checking the book out though.

I remember right before this blu-ray came out reading a quote of Refn's stating how he is a big fan and collector of blu-rays and that a special edition of Drive would follow the initial bare bones release including commentary etc.

HERE'S THE INTERVIEW
http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplayli...ition-of-drive

Has anyone seen any updates or heard any rumors?

This film wasn't a huge box office story but it did make 77 million off a 13 million dollar budget. I'd consider that a good return. Plus it's had to have made a healthy profit on home video sales, so I don't think a special edition would be impossible

That was just a wish. He never said it would actually happen though. If he had time to do it.
