It's bound to happen if one waits to see a film. Especially films like Drive or Gravity. Its almost better to see a film early and be disappointed on your own then let down from expecting too much. Like these nuts that love the movie so much that they think they'll live the film if they get the jacket. You won't look like "Driver" if you buy the jacket. You didn't look like Brad Pitt either when ya got the red Fight Club jacket! You looked like a geeky Michael Jackson.

Ah to be 17 again Recently I was introduced to a friend of a friend who had the biker Fight Club jacket (Red with white shoulders), but his was black with red shoulders. It's not nearly as "loud" imo. I still love my biker jackets but they're solid colors without any designs/patches on them.

Really enjoy Drive; even though it's only a little over 2 years old, it's become one of my all-time favorite films. Excellent, somewhat nihilistic story & incredible atmospheric, trance-like soundtrack. Gosling did an incredible job as a relatively emotionless character without a name & a past. The film has elements of The Driver, Thief, Taxi Driver, and Shane..while still being completely original & unique.

I have seen the film & heard the CD soundtrack in it's entirety. And, I did have a question: Are there any tracks in the film itself that are not on the soundtrack? Just curious - I did some research on this, and couldn't find any info. I ask because I know that sometimes they exclude film music from the soundtrack due to timing/budgetary reasons. Thanks in advance for any info. on this...

Getting back to the film, two of my favorite scenes were:

[Show spoiler]When he put on the mask towards the end, and the chaos that followed. Especially disturbing here was when he went up to the mobster's pizza parlor & looked in with the mask on...

The very ending, after he finished what he had done & drove away down the dark highway...leaving everything behind.

Well if it's more music like that you're looking for, I suggest looking up the following artists on either youtube, soundcloud, or bandcamp.com:

MPMSoundtracks
Miami Nights 1984
Sellorekt/LA Dreams
MegaDrive
PowerGlove
Betamaxx

No exaggeration, there must be over 500 independent artists who make this kind of music, but these here that I listed are some of my favorites. I've been following this genre of music for nearly 3 years now and this movement shows no sign of slowing down. Enjoy

Thanks very much for the info. - I will have to check those artists out. I like this type of music....I'm not sure if it's called ambient/trance?!, or something else. Most of the music in Drive was only instrumental, no vocals - and, was perfect music to listen to at anytime, but especially when driving at night....

I also really like Moby, who I got into in the early 2000's - many of his albums have this type of music. I also used to be into Delerium back in the day...

Since this type of music isn't popular the jury is still out on what it's official title is, lol. However, the most "generalized" name to cover all the sub-genre bases would be "Nu-retro-wave" or something similar like "nu-wave" "retro-wave" and "nu-retro". Kavinsky's sub-genre is called "Outrun". Fast paced (or not), heavy emphasis on drums and bass (hence why it sometimes makes its way into more poular music circles, as his music gets the most views on yutube). "Lazerhawk" is another great artist that makes this type of synth music.

"Dreamwave" is more ambient and slow. It's instrumental music that sounds more like the score to 80's teen movies. "Synthwave" is also instrumental but more faster paced and sounds like 80's pop tunes. "Synthpop" is similar, but does have lyrics. "Darksynth" is more like the score to an 80's horror movie (John Carpenter films).

Dreamwave artists: Cougarsynth, Timecop 1983, Sunglasses kid
Synthwave artists: StarDone, Mitch Murder, 80's Stallone
Synthpop artists: Kristine, Patrick Baker, Ghosthouse
Darksynth: PowerGlove, Perturbator, Protector 101

You'll notice the differences between the sub genres as you listen to it. All good stuff

Its not ambient or trance (if it was trance I wouldnt be listening to Drive!)

The first few tunes on the Drive soundtrack Id call synth-pop or retro/80s synth anyway. Then you have the actual "soundtrack" tunes which are synth for sure.

Its the best soundtrack in years no question.

I second the recommendations for Mitch Murder, Miami Nights 1984, Power Glove, Perturbator and would like to add New Retro Wave, a label that comes out with compilations of retro '80s tunes.

I love the fact that synth heavy music has been making a comeback and are starting to be used into movie intros for example from Maniac

Ok, I was hoping to fight the urge and not do this, but now that the thread has gone in this direction, I have no choice, lol. Since this is "Drive" we're talking about, I'll go with some songs that I feel have that "drive" feel:

That's all for now. But I promise there's plenty more where that came from. Enjoy!!!

Yep. A synth based soundtrack will always sound good to me.

A rock soundtrack (usually the sort of films I dont like with mega-CGI ) always makes me look like this . It nearly always doesnt suit the film/action as well.

This comment cracked me up. I adore synth soundtracks but you're right, I didn't have to live through it as the norm and popular for a whole decade. Chances are music that drives me nuts now will probably be hip in a few decades as well. So I get where you're coming from. I love it though. Makes me wish I DID live through it! Haha

Haahaaa.
It is a fact that each and any band, especially a rock band, that used em were "quiffy", and more so in the 80's.
Europe, Air Supply...etc

But today's use of synth is a little better, with a little less "cheese" haaa
