I actually couldn't finish Bronson - found it insufferable despite the fact that I wanted to like it. And yet Drive is the best film of the year by a landslide. A masterpiece that I couldn't stop thinking about for weeks after, and the first film I'll ever pre-order at retail price. I can't wait a year for a special edition!

Although I totally agree about the temporary U.S. cover art. There are countless amazing posters and they put out something that looks like it was made in a Photoshop 101 course. The custom art that a member posted was a million times better.

EDIT: Just ordered the HMV Steelbook as well as the US Blu-ray

Cool!

I ordered this through my GB deal a week or so ago. I'll still get the $1.15 (or whatever) off the lower $19.99 price, correct?

I believe so. I pre-ordered it also last week when it was in my GB as well. I think now it is just $1 off since its 5% from 19.99

Amazon finally put the US artwork up. I'm disappointed to say the least.

Disgraceful. There were so many amazing posters. What genius looked at them and said, "How can we make this look like we put it together in Photoshop in 10 minutes?" I'm glad I ordered the awesome steelbook.

Pre-ordered, but I'll be placing the US discs inside the steel book for sure. Such ugly artwork we get over here.

actually the original version from the trade ad with the yellow letters looked much better and more film themed. the latest artwork is really the worst they
could have used (i.e. photoshoped) . i just can't understand artwork decisions like that.
i can just imagine 10 corporate zombie suits sitting in that meeting room with
flip charts what pics will attract the most customers
all straight by the numbers and lets protect our own chair game
sometimes these moron seem to have no clue whatsoever what the
people who enjoy these movies would go for

I was going to say something about that...I highly doubt he'd enjoy Drive if he'd rather watch Bucky Larson instead.

I want to do this too, but with the holidays coming up among other things I can't bring myself to spend that much cash on one film right now.

Do you know how long it usually takes for HMV to sell out of something like that? I'm guessing that the steelbook being B locked is pretty much guaranteed as well

Sweet Jesus. Both the poster and the soundtrack cover (which I think may have been used as the poster in some places, yes?) were great. This . . . not so much. Good thing we have some good custom covers peeps 'round heah.

Well... that cover is still horrifying...
But at least they're not pretending the pink font is yellow. They're just using the French poster logo...

Still, Sony's marketing is so arrogant. That cover is so bad looking, I'm pretty sure it will keep people AWAY from that film. If they just took a nice crisp photo of Gosling, any of the ones used in the posters... did nothing to the image...
and added:
Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Albert Brooks, Ron Perlman, Christina Hendricks and Bryan Cranston in...
DRIVE
A Nicolas Winding Refn Film
...to the top...
People would buy it. This cover for drive... it looks like one of the movies that The Asylum made as a rip off of Faster or Fast Five.

If Sony's scared that the 80s styling and the pink font will keep people away from the film... they don't know their audience.

Most guys I know, their favorite videogame is Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Which uses a combination of "The Price Is Right"'s font and something similar to Drive's. That game, and its iconic cover, signify awesome ultra violence, a sweet soundtrack and an intriguing crime story.

If marketed right, Drive would look like GTA: Vice City: The Movie.
But no. it looks like the new film from the director of Titanic II.

This reminds me of The King's Speech. A likely Oscar contender, with mediocre art that downplays the film's real themes.

I am glad that the tagline isn't:

anymore.

I forgot where, but Rotten Tomatoes around Halloween had an article on Movie costumes, and there's a site that sells the jacket for $160 and should still be in stock. It's only a major waiting period, as orders (last I checked) were backed until February, and this was back in late October.
