i'm all for opinions but worst movie of the year??? Maybe the film just wasn't for you. There's been very great movies that weren't my cup of tea but i don't go calling them the worst movie of the year.

If you told me Drive Angry or like The Roommate was your pick for worst movie of the year, I could understand that more. I don't see how someone could just really hate Drive, like were you expecting Fast and Furious or something?

I personally read about most movies before I see them if I know nothing of them. I read something along the lines of the director saying he loved Pretty in Pink but wish it had blood in it. That alone made me want to check this out and I was thoroughly entertained.

Nice from DevianArt:

I think we have such iconic images from this film the artwork has endless permutations. I like nearly every image but I'd like his back to us with something along the lines of:

Maybe we could get a pink Blu-ray box too?

Pink amaray would be awesome. That cover is good except for Carey Mulligan and Albert Brooks randomly pasted on.

I maybe late to this horrible cover art party but the us cover art for this amazing more is horrendous. First and foremost what is with the scorpion on the front of his jacket?! I own a replica of the jacket and there is clearly now scorpion on the front. I ordered a collectible box set of this movie from fnac. I cant bring myself to put the us coverart into my collection.

I think the perfect case would be bright pink with the image of his back on the cover, like on the soundtrack or what bluray had up for the coverart before it changed it to this crapness.

Yeah that cover is turrible. These custom ones I've been seeing blow it out of the water. I've noticed that cover designs for blu releases have been overwhelmingly below those for DVD releases in quality (when liberties are taken, ie the poster art isn't used). Is the smaller space really that much of a problem?

I mean the movie of course is the important thing but it's been more than once that a well-designed cover has caused me to pick up a title whilst perusing. Criterion, MoC for example: I really appreciate the time and thought that goes into their cover designs.

Fortunately for Drive I've got the HMV steelbook on-order, which does not appear to be cover design-challenged

Can anyone tell me why as a US customer, when I put the steelbook in my cart it doesn't drop the VAT on the price? Amazon UK drops that off the listed price once I start checking out, but at HMV the price remains 12.99 Euros plus shipping.

I believe it's because Amazon UK computes VAT as part of the advertised price, which is then subtracted during checkout; other retailers like HMV add it on during checkout (like sales tax is added here in America).

Just got this today,

No BBFC ratings as they were on the cardboard data sheet it is Region B locked though, and has no inside artwork (thats easily fixed though )

Bad news for anyone intrested in the UK Drive SteelBook though, as it's also released by Icon. So could expect it to be Region locked and minus inner artwork.

can't figure out if I do want to spend extra on the steelbook, because the Sony US artwork is absolute trash.

If those glasses weren't photoshopped on the steelbook, I'd buy it.

There was an article posted...erm, somewhere... recently (I really can't remember), that basically explained how DVD and blu-ray buying is most prevalent in European countries and so distributors are directing their efforts there in terms of releases.

For such a small place, the UK does get a disproportionate amount of steelbook releases, for example. We must be doing something right!

Yeah, I don't know what's worse. The photoshopped sunglasses are just as horrid. I think I might go with the French release.

The steelbook's only ~$5 more shipped than the US release will be (esp. if you factor in in-store tax if not ordering from Amazon). I really enjoyed the film so I have no qualms getting a special edition for that much more, but that's me.

Of course it's region B locked--funny how I don't even think about that as a problem, but many do so it's worth noting.

Random can be very good:

A lot of people buying Drive will know those characters as they are integral. Those with little knowledge buying will hopefully guess their importance. If we don't have this 'random' style posters get dumber and dumber and Photoshopped until we get something like Sony US are doing or much worse with 'big head' Walmart style.

Gosling does not steal this film -the film is the entire cast. That's where its main quality lies. Brooks is far more scarier than Gosling.
