So the UK's are speed-up? Kind of odd.

Pre-ordered the UK Steelbook and US ugly release. Going to put the US disc in the UK case and sell the UK disc. I'm not a big fan of Blu-ray (prefer digital from iTunes/Amazon) but for this movie it's worth it.

Oh, and "Hello", this is my first post here.

It might be $17.99 somewhere. It will either be that or 19.99 come release day.

Typically small/indie/critical acclaim movies that release on just a single blu disc are $17.99 or 19.99 the first week. Like Midnight In PAris as the most recent example

If my opinion on the first viewing of this film offends you, I'm terribly sorry. But, I am giving the movie another chance, this time in better quality, to see if it was the quality that was really holding me back from liking this movie (even though it probably wasn't ).

Also, for the record, plenty of things I download are on par with blu-ray quality. I get the full experience most of the time.
Kudos, Black Sabbath. You do what you do, and screw the rest.

As someone who owns one shy of 300 Blu-Rays and who's gone to the theaters four times in the last month, I downloaded and watched this film tonight myself. Actually, if this film were still playing at the $1.99 theater here, I wouldn't have downloaded it, but I guess I missed my chance to see this in theaters (t'was extremely busy with work this past fall).

Anyway, I was completely infatuated with the first half of this film because of its terseness; it was like watching a modern reimagining of JP Melville's Le Samourai. I really enjoyed Gosling's interactions with the kid Benicio and the contrast between his warmth toward the kid and his coolness at all other times. I was also pleased with Standard's character because he wasn't really what I was expecting. But then the focus of the film shifts, and I'm not too sure how I feel about the second half of the film once all the violence starts... It was just one guy dying after another until they were all dead, at which point the film ended. I also had some difficulty keeping straight all of the names and faces of the different mobsters that had been introduced in the film's exposition. Damn, I want to like this film, but I doubt that I'll fork over the $20 for this at the end of the month since times are tight and MGM is blasting me with six classic titles on the 24th.

Loved this film's style, not sold on the substance. This film is worth checking out, though, and I may revisit it in a few months to see if it's grown on me.

14.99 would be sweet since the artwork isn't so hot.

It's like Le Samourai crossed with Bullitt, if that makes sense to you.

The Last Crusade might be considered on par with Raiders, but I discount it for the same reason. I’m not familiar enough with the Bourne series.

But agreed, Drive sequel almost surely=crap.

Edit: If you meant as a sequel to Two Towers, Return of the King was better I agree. I thought you meant both Two Towers and Return of the King were better than Fellowship.
The Godfather 2, The Dark Knight, Spider-Man 2, sequels are no longer guaranteed to be shit.

However, a sequel to Drive sounds utterly terrible. This is a standalone movie if I've ever seen one, even if the sequel is well-done it's just so totally unnecessary. Imagine if they go too hard on the exposition in the second one, show too much of Gosling's character, try and force the noir elements that worked well in the first one... it could even taint the first one when you rewatch it.

In other news, us Canucks get a different cover?! Awesome! The US one looks goddamn terrible, this movie in particular deserves much better.

Looks like it's region free too. Might have to pick this up if it drops to 20-25. I want to see the actual case as well. How much is shipping to US from amazon.ca? Any way to get free shipping other than gift cards?

Canada is also region A so they'll play fine. But I think shipping costs about 10 USD and there is no free shipping option for US customers.

If the U.S. copy has no slipcover then I'm probably getting the canadian alliance release. $35 is too much but I really liked the movie and thought it was one of the best movies of 2011. Don't see why Sony would make such a dumb cover, they did an awesome package with taxi driver and that was like $12 on release (I understand its an older title but still). If sony did the same packaging with drive as they did with taxi driver that would be awesome.

Just made a custom cover of the poster that chetripley80 posted earlier. This is my first attempt at making a custom Blu-Ray cover, so let me know if anything needs fixing.
