Judging a guy from a Robert Rodriguez/Tarantino movie he made in the mid-90s is ridiculous.
I think George Clooney's one of the top actors going right now. His celebrity status isn't taxing to me; I believe he's one of the A-listers who a) deserves it and b) wears his celebrity quite well, actually. He has assumed the 'Cary Grant' model quite proficiently, but he still challenges himself through acting, and directing.

As to his role in The Descendants, he is truly excellent in a rocksteady performance that buoys the entire film, even through its weaknesses (it meanders off the top and at the tail a bit, not to great detriment though - thanks to Clooney). You really sense his handle of the trials of his personal and professional lives whilst watching the film. This is no mere 'Clooney show up, get award' business: he deserves all of the accolades he's received for this performance, up to and including his sure-fire Oscar nomination tomorrow (and, I believe, the actual Oscar next month - well, it'll either be him or Jean Dujardin). And that's no small feat in this past year, which has saw some absolutely fantastic performances (from both sexes).

Now back to Drive: 8 days baby - I'm thinking of picking up the US copy to go with the steel, just so I can watch it first-day. I've been Youtubing scenes at a steady clip, having the soundtrack on nonstop. What a way to top off a great first month of 2012 releases.

Not me.
Absolutely LOATHED that movie.
His performance in it wasn't anything to speak of either.

Agree 100%. I'd pay to watch her paint her kitchen for two hours. But 'wort'? Getting a wee tad too excited are we big guy?

Ok, so I'm a little late to the dance...

Didn't see this in theaters but I have it pre-ordered from Amazon. I have no doubt it will be a great blind buy!

Couldn't agree more. I'm not one to cry in movies, but man, that scene brought out a few tears. George Clooney in top form right there. LOVED The Descendants.

Anyways. Is anyone getting the Canadian Future Shop exclusive of Drive?

So, to sum it up for me, the Canadian release is essentially the same release as US (Region A, Special Features, Etc.) but it has a better cover design. Correct? And where's the cheapest place to get it?

You bet your ass I am! I like the simple cover design a lot more than the regular release's and Future Shop is generally where I get my BDs on release day.

Just to be clear, the regular Canadian edition that will retail at Future Shop, Best Buy, HMV, Wal-Mart etc. just looks marginally different from the US one. It looks like this.

And this one is the Future Shop exclusive that will obviously be... well, exclusive to Future Shop.

Yes, all that's different is the packaging.

Giving Extremely Crap Incredibly Whatever several nominations, and then giving Drive none, especially snubbing Albert Brooks, on top of so much other stuff. That makes sense...

While I don't disagree, it should be noted, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close only got 2 nominations (not several) for Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor, and Drive did get 1 nomination for Best Sound Editing.

I did it! I got Drive for free via my boss in thanks to you guys.

Lemme explain:

Our office answer for anything we don't know is "seven". Its an inside thing.

He knows I'm a member here in these forums, and he happens to LOVE the movie 'Drive'.

He said if I could get "seven" members to talk about something other than "Drive" in a 24 hour period in the "Drive" thread, I could have his copy of Drive.

We just counted and I got EIGHT people to talk about something other than Drive: RJ Smoove, El_Jay, Balthazar Bee, FreakyFraser, Iherman22, Icedburden, Cinemach, and Bam777.

You guys rock!

Of course Clooney is a good actor, you weirdo's. I just mentioned the FROM DUSK TIL DAWN thing because he really did need 20 takes to do one line, and I needed to pull from something that was true to get my free copy of Drive.

Does Drive take place in the 80's? The cover art reminds me of a 1980's vhs cover (including his outfit) and the scrrenshot of the title screen just screams 1985!

That's ok. It was for a good cause =)

As you can see, I posted the Clooney comment at 1:21 yesterday, so I wasnt allowed to "stir the pot" by adding fuel to the discussion. I just had to see if I could get 7 comments in under 24 hours.

I'm psyched to watch Drive!
