Whoa what I great ****ing movie!
Definitely a slow burn at first, but once the main character starts killing people it takes off. Sucks for anyone who doesn't have the patients to enjoy this film. Oh and I couldn't help but get this vibe from the movie that made me think of grand theft auto vice city. If ever there is a grand theft auto film I want it to be in the same vein as this. Just an observation.

I wonder what people were expecting when just about every review mentions how slow the film moves as well as a lack of Michael Bay-esque over the top action scenes.

Drive is both breathtaking and unique. Its truly something special.

However, it is not a movie that relies on mindless action, poor dialogue, or convenient story telling.

exactly.

I think MANY people went into this with completely the wrong expectations...being "oh it's about cars, right? So half the running time will be car chases, right?"

due diligence on movies is a good thing folks

Finally got around to watching this today. I loved it. Much slower than I thought it would be, but I was never bored.

I saw it for the 3rd time on Tuesday. Great movie, I wish there was a commentary on the disc. I was gonna wait until the re-release (if there is gonna be one). But I really wanted to see it again. I'll gladly buy a special edition. Especially is the cover art is better than what the US got.

I watched this last night. Wow! I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was amazing. One of the best films of 2011. I wish I had seen it in the theater.

We all have movies in our own collections that others don't like or are admittedly sub par, at least I didn't add another one to my collection. Worst movie I've seen in quite awhile and I've seen some stinkers.

I guess I just don't get it and am glad I never will.

No problem. Now you have made your point, quite a few times. We got it. You didn't like it. Move on.

I am very shocked and saddened to read your opinion on this great film. Why didn't you like it?

Exactly!!

I can never understand why some members feel the need to post in a thread for a very popular (and extremely well received) movie if they didn't enjoy it! Not to mention it's usually something so unrealistic that most will either laugh at them (not in a good way) or argue with them.

Are they so starved for attention that this is what they need to do?

I occurs to me that '2 Fast 2 Furious' fans are exactly the ones that could be the most disappointed in 'Drive'.

I didn't care for '2 Fast 2 Furious' so I am happy 'Drive' wasn't another retread (pun intended) of the genre.

I watched this last night and liked it very much. It's outside the top 10 that I saw last year, though. Extremely well acted, with good chase sequences and bursts of violence. My gripe is simply with the tediously slow pace of the first half of the film. I know people will say it's "contemplative," but I felt distanced from the characters the longer on those scenes went instead of being drawn in. 4/5.

But, even with the objections here, I stand what I've predicted earlier in this post: "Drive" share a lot with "Taxi Driver", and not only because of the title. The movie is built the same way. It's not the same story, but if you compare the characters, the mood, the evolution of the actions made by the main character and why he does them... you can see the similitudes. Anyway, both movie are almost perfect in my opinion!

Oh and, what a Soundtrack!!! The music is awesome and the sound quality is very impressive. I have to buy that movie soundtrack!

I gave "Drive" a good 4.5/5 and it's my favorite 2011 movie with "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol"!
Interesting point there in regards to Taxi Driver; particularly in terms of character motivations, there are noteworthy parallels: protecting a female, subscription to a personal 'code' if you will, violence as some sort of catharsis...That'll be something to think about when next I watch these two films.

Those would make a solid double-bill, actually.

The pace of the movie was just way to slow for one thing. If the movie is going to plod along like that we could at least learn something about the character to make you care what happens to them. I don't remember him even having a name other than the driver or kid. Throughout the movie what did you actually learn about him that made you care one way or the other what happened to him or anyone else?

The long brooding silence's of the movie added nothing other than, silence.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse but what was actually innovative, new or exciting about this movie? I don't ask this to argue with anyone, I'm just wondering what everyone else saw in this movie that I'm missing.
