Basically he got the mask out of the trunk walked up to the door to confirm Nino was there, then went back in his car and waited for Nino. Even when Driver had Nino on the beach, why still the mask? Also, doesn't anyone recognize a Schmedium sized Scorpion Jacket?

2) Okay, that was my initial take...but wanted to confirm with others that had seen the movie.
[Show spoiler]I think the point of the mask was The Driver literally becoming a movie character in his own story. Drive is basically a superhero movie at its core, so the the mask is essentially Driver taking on the role of the masked hero saving the day. It's a little wink wink from Refn to the audience.

Ok,
[Show spoiler]I thought about that too...but figured that was what the Scorpion Jacket was for?

Don't get me wrong I appreciate all the discussion, and I'm not disagreeing with any of it. I guess now I'm gonna have to go out and buy the damn movie to watch it again!!
Afterall it does have Christina Hendricks in it.....

My take,
[Show spoiler]I think the scorpion jacket was his costume with the scorpion being his emblem. His "S" on his chest, if you will.

Despite her looking like a stereotypical "ghetto fabulous" attitude girl... THOSE CURVES! She has an incredible body and look to her, and glad to see her in something great
[Show spoiler]even if for a little bit
. I haven't watched Mad Men, despite buying all 4 seasons for the BF cheap prices they were, but I plan to watch that later for her and Jon Hamm. Mostly her, though.

Not the most, but 4 times here Which for me, is quite a bit. Most movies I only see 2 times. Theater, purchase. Some 3-4 over a year or two (mostly Halloween/Christmas type films) and then the occasional re-watch of some of my all-time favorite films that might be around 5 or 6. My all-time favorite, WALL-E is probably around 8 or 9 times right now.

I totally agree, and thought the same thing...
[Show spoiler]I just don't get why he wore the mask? Perhaps another ode to the superhero genre?
Anyway, it was definitely an interesting movie!

Oh you'll be in for a treat with MM, as she has a much more expanded role in the series. I, also, bought S1-S4 this past BF...$9.99ea, what deal!!
You better start watching, you might finish up right when S5 is released!

I thought he wore the mask because wanted to be able to see inside the the pizza parlor to assure who he wanted to get was in there. The guy the he wanted to get knew what he looked like. His blonde hair is enough to draw peripheral attention, but with the mask he wait outside without being instantly recognized. The mask was only somewhat convincing at a distance which was what it was made for when he wore it as a stuntdriver, and suited that purpose again for the Driver outside the pizza place . I'm probably wrong but that's why I though he wore the mask.

Seeing Driver
[Show spoiler]put on the mask and peek into the window
seemed like it was setting up for something bigger... cooler... more badass... sick and awesome. All we get is him
[Show spoiler]going back to the car and waiting to follow them in their car.

Sorry. That, we can all agree, was anti-climatic.

Driver should have peeked in the pizza place for a moment... walked away... (which he did) then with no change of camera angle wait fifteen seconds... and BAM! We should have seen him enter the shop and beat the shit out of some of the dudes or, Driver should have driven the car through the front window and into the shop towards the camera, injuring everybody... followed by Driver stepping out and stomping on everybody's head.

yeah and then he could have blown up the pizza place w/ fertilizer and then stick his masked head into the flames so that it would sear onto his skin so he could look like that forever.
and the then they could make sequels....

Drive Again
Drive Hard in 3D
Drive Longer
Drive 5ive
Driver Blows Up White Castle
Drive To The Center of The Earth
Drive XIII: The Scorpion's Son
Drive To Hell
Driver finds Zodiac on Blu-ray

Hahaa- Good one... Good points.

But, there's absolutely no denying it was anti-climatic.

Lets use common sense and run through the scene:

Driver drives to pizza place...
("suspense builds")

Driver pulls mask out of trunk and puts it on
("suspense builds even more")

Driver walks up to pizza shop front door and peaks in
("Insane suspense building even more! What's gonna happen next? OMG this is gonna be sick!")

Driver....

...waits in car and follows 'em in their car
("oh well. I thought he put on the mask for some reason?")

Awww, then you must have hated the elevator scene.

"Driver shouldnt have stomped the dudes head in the elevator. That's too 'Drive Angry' or 'DriveFive' for me. He should have followed him out of the elevator, waited in his car instead and followed him." - Batmon

So its not cool to stomp heads in a pizza place but, it's cool in an elevator?

could you let the movie be what it is instead of projecting your fantaszies onto the story?

Personally, I think 'Drive' is most enjoyable with as many beers and as little thought as possible. It is one of those movies that qualify as flat out pure entertainment, leave you mind at the door and have a good time. I am very satisfied with my blind puchase of this movie.

Not having a go at you, Dude, but I couldn't disagree with this more. Well, I agree with the beer part, but not the "as little thought as possible/shut your brain off" sentiments. This is a pretty damn cerebral movie if you ask me. I consider superhero movies, Transformers, The Expendables, Fast and Furious etc. stuff to be "shut your brain off entertainment".

Anyway, horses for courses, I just thought I'd mention it.

lol, ok I agree, I think I exaggerated what I was getting at in my post above. I was thinking more along the lines of what the guys were talking about above in that..... Its a movie, go in and enjoy it the best you can, if you see something that seems a bit exaggerated don't let it get in the way of you enjoying the film you bought or rented.
