Did the Connery films get put onto this higher pedestal after the anti-Connery Bond films happened?

Except for the one or two comic book films that tried to go deeper and be government conspiracy thrillers, I also can't see the comic book films as being notable films for the ages, just one and done popcorn flicks. Heck, even the government thriller CBFs I haven't rewatched.

All of those other films seem like the critics loved them but the "man on the street" wouldn't have heard of them. Except for Bohemian Rhapsody, I can believe folks watched that.

IIRC, Mel Gibson wasn't a huge fan of Hacksaw Ridge, comparing it to raising someone else's baby and having to learn to love it. It struck me as a film Mad Mel had to make in order to get "work release" from "Hollywood jail".

Everything Everywhere All At Once was massively overrated by YouTube critics who normally rail against everything that movie was. When the "anti-hollywood" critics and the normal critics are united in praising a film, it's almost certainly overrated.

The King's Man was overrated? I thought it got very mixed reviews (which is fair) and had a middling turnout theatrically. It was unfortunately a film that was clearly made for 3D but was just weird in 2D as all of the 3D sequences were left in flat.
The first ever Ghostbusters. All the other ones aren't rated very highly.

Green Book won very big prizes didn't it? Surely that means it's 'rated'.

I'd add 'Fight Club' and 'The Shawshank Redemption'.

Massively overrated.

How does overrated work? Green Book is a film made for critics (Oscar Bait), and critics ate it up but basically no one else saw it or remembers it; it ain't popular. Ghostbusters is a film that most everyone had heard of and has popular praise.

Maybe they each have their own kind of overrated. Dunno.

Ouch. Yeah, that one was overrated before it was even released, it was the film that was going to save theaters. I almost want to feel bad for Nolan over that impossible level of hype his movie got, but then I remember that Nolan tanked it with bizarro artistic choices.

I saw Green Book and praised it for Viggo Mortenson's performance which I found surprisingly good given his lackluster performance in most other things including the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Aside from that, it was just another "black people have it tough" movie #2468 and counting.

Y'know, I'm coming around to the notion that LotR wasn't sacrosanct. I saw some clips of effects shots recently and it made the case that I had selectively remembered the great ones and repressed the hokey ones.

I always see LotR praised now for PJ's interview where he says that he wanted to tell Tolkien's story and not interject his own, but the recent discussion about how he retcon'd the mythos by making Liv Tyler's character overwrite Tolkien originals is proof that the trilogy is presently being overrated.

Oh, yes, I forgot to add Fight Club.

Never have liked that one. Wrong generation for it, I guess. My son's generation seemed to dig that one a lot. I could never see it.

Spider-Man No Way Home.

Legit one of the worse films I've seen. Not only fails as a Spider-Man film, but fails as both a MCU film and the finale to the Home trilogy. It's everything Spidey fans feared Sony would do with him...........and yet they love it.
