Default Movies you think are overrated

Now these aren't necessarily all bad movies, but just ones I think are very overrated. Post the movies you think are the most overrated.

Most overrated movies:

1.Leon: The Professional
-In my opinion this film is awful. It's poorly written, poorly edited, and the action isn't even good. The whole plot is dumb and executed terribly and the relationship between the middle aged man and a 12 year old is really uncomfortable.

2. Avatar
-The only good thing about this movie is the effects. The story isn't necessarily bad, but very poorly written and executed. There are tons of plot holes and on top of it that scene where Colonel Miles is in a giant robot and TAKES OUT A KNIFE is one of the dumbest movie scenes of all time.

3.The Goonies
-This movie is also awful. The movie is poorly directed, poorly acted, poorly written, and on top of it the characters are extremely annoying. In my opinion Chunk is one of the most annoying movie characters of all time. Every second he's screaming and throughout the whole film he's always screwing everything up. I really hate that movie.

4. Resevoir Dogs
-This isn't a bad movie by any means. I'm a huge fan of Tarantino, but this film has got to be one of his weakest works next to death proof. There are some classic scenes and likable characters, but that's about it. All of the dialogue goes on for too long that doesn't develop character or moves the story along, a lot of the camera angles are drawn out, and most of the story is predictable.

5.Apocalypse Now
-STOP PLEASE DON'T KILL ME! I'm probably going to get a lot of hate for this but whatevs. I am a big fan of Francis Ford Coppola's work and the Godfather Trilogy is one of the best trilogy's of all time. However, this film is very good, but is it really as great as everyone says it is? The acting is average(aside from Marlon Brando), the story isn't that intriguing, and in my opinion there are Vietnam movies that surpass it (Full Metal Jacket, The Deer Hunter). Not to mention, the film moves incredibly slow and can get exhausting at times. Again, this is not a bad film. In fact, it's a great one. I really appreciate the fantastic cinematography and well written screenplay. Though one of the best films? Eh......I'm not so sure it deserves a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.

What are some films that are overrated to you?

Not this again.

There is no such thing as an overrated film. Subjectivity plays too big of a part in each individuals opinion to make definitive blanket judgements in the vain of what this duplicate thread is asking.

This thread is just asking for people to come and trash films that everyone enjoys. And the OP list is a PRIME example!

Totally this. Also, OP I know you're new and excited but pace yourself. No need to start every thread you can think of in one day.

You'll also want to check out the search function. You'll find there are often many threads (like this one) that exist that you can contribute to while finding a ton of existing opinions from forum members.

A Christmas Story

I see it as an analogy as corporate Americas greed and lust for material items even if it can lead to their downfall. It's story is disgusting and I hate its praise. Some little guy won't take no for an answer and causes a ruckus. I was so happy when that little guy got what was coming for him.

New member this month and the two threads I see you've created reek of negativity.
Bashing movies on a site about movies? I don't like you already.

I don't think that's fair, if it seems as if that's the case I'm sorry. I simply didn't see any threads on these so I decided to make one. I find that seeing movies people tend not to like (especially ones I enjoy) interest me and shows me the difference between tastes vs simply seeing what everyone likes.

The list would be too long.

Movies get overrated because of different reasons

Theres those that get overrated because they were 'firsts', films like Seven Samurai, Jaws etc. Some films get overrated because they're 'American', like Citizen Kane. Others get overrated because they make the viewer feel 'smart' like Inception. Still others get overrated because of highly exaggerated special effects, like Gravity and Avatar. Others like 'The Artist' rely on gimmicks.

Theres a variety of reasons. The list of films would be massive

If you honestly think Jaws, Seven Samurai, and Citizen Kane are overrated...well...you fail at understanding film in general.

To be clear, overrated doesnt necessarily mean bad. Jaws is considered the best horror movie of all time, making it overrated. When I watched Citizen Kane for the first time, I liked it. Good movie, but certainly not the greatest of anything.

true.

overrated formula = Film PERCEIVED rating - Film ACTUAL rating

so the higher ranked/more prestigious a film, the more "overrated potential" it has, IF its actual rating doesn't match up
