Streaming content of course uses a lower bitrate than physical media. But if your'e talking about streaming content you're not comparing streaming to physical media, you're comparing it to other streaming. Many people don't watch physical media anymore. So the comparison for them is HD on Netflix to 4K on Netflix. In which case 4K has a much higher bitrate and more resolution. The netflix original series have been some of the best content in 4K to be released yet, and it looks undeniably better in 4K than in HD. Should I have waited until Netflix released those shows on UltraHD Blu-Ray to enjoy them? Heck no. I want to enjoy them in the best quality possible when they're released, which right now, is streaming onto a 4K tv. |

I mean, I would chose physical media over streaming any day, but streaming has gotten very good. Especially with the new HEVC codec. The netflix series look incredible.

Yes, there are other scenes where you can see that the compression has its problems. But at the moment there is no real alternative... |

Watch The Blacklist on Blu-ray disc, then go and stream it in 4K on Netflix. Netflix's stream looks much better than the 1080p disc. My only gripe with streaming, which is why I love to use, but not replace physical, is that it can be inconsistent. I have a 150Mbps down connection, and over Wi-fi (most people use this) upstairs, it's back and forth, in and out and goes from gorgeous 4K, to a subpar 480p then back up to 1080 and 4K, vice versa at times. I now use ethernet and it takes just about 30 seconds to go up to and stay at 4K for the duration of the episode, but when I play next, same thing. Until our service providers don't throttle, I can't see MYSELF adopting streaming only as the only way I enjoy movies or TV shows. I'll go physical on the ones I enjoy a lot or rewatch, and use Netflix and the sort as a rental service. |

Typically, if a Digital Copy is included with a DVD it's standard definition, and with Blu-ray it's 1080p. Will the Digital Copies of 4K be 4K resolution, too? If so, I assume Vudu and other apps will have to update. Hope they don't make a new program for us to sign up for. If a DVD comes out (street date release week) for like $14.99, a Blu-ray for liek $19.99, I hope the 4K is no more than $29.99 release week. Thought I saw a boxart for Amazing Spider-Man 2 in this thread that showed artwork with a banner saying "UltraHD + Blu-ray + Digital Copy". That's fine with me, and hope they don't ever include DVDs with them. |

If one cares about audio quality they do not need to stream to have an opinion, that one is pretty cut and dry.
Ive watched Netflix originals streamed at 1080p with DD+ 5.1 and then on Blu with lossless, Ill take the current Blu-ray picture and lossless audio over a higher quality video feed and worse audio. For me, audio is just as important, if not more important than the quality of the image, especially when we are talking about the level of Blu-ray image currently. ![]() But, to your question directly, the answer is yes, however, as previously noted close to 3 years ago, it is much cheaper to do a 4K finish from the get-go rather than going back and remastering. |

A lot of films are captured in 4K/5K resolution or higher, but then mastered and CGI'd at 2K. ![]() Heck, even CBS who made a big deal about rescanning negatives for ST:TNG only remastered them at 1080. ![]() |
