serious question. Why the crap do computer monitors seem to be lagging so far behind tvs?

even just trying to find a monitor with the same color space as the new tvs is craaaazy expensive.

Silly question, but if a disc has Dolby Vision and the UHD Blu-Ray player does not support it (like the Samsung), what does that mean for the playback of the disc?

It could decode the 10-bit HDR10 base layer part of the 12-bit dual-layer Dolby Vision disc.

Ah okay, so the Dolby Vision is just an extra bonus basically.

Good marketing by Panasonic:

- “My world of visual storytelling is based around color accuracy and the need for a display that compliments the creative vision. Panasonic has engineered their newest 4K Pro OLED TV to a standard that I would only expect in professional displays," says Mike Sowa.

Note that the Panasonic does not meet the criteria for UHD Alliance Premium Certification; the new 2016 OLED s do.

Panasonic Measured DCI-P3 coverage 86% 2016 LG OLEDs claim 99% DCI-P3. Time to wait for pro reviews. Maybe LG can get Sowa to moonlight for them.

Would be interesting to see what standard Pana/Sony engineers could deliver with 2016 LG panel.

For most people there would be little point in buying a computer monitor that has features that won't work in Windows 10. Hopefully Microsoft will add support for HDR/WCG to Windows 11.

For the near term I would try to find a small TV/Monitor that has HDR/WCG. If it does those then it is assumed that it is at least 10 bit, 040h(64) to 3ACh(940) and will do 000h(0) to 3FCh(1023) for computer use.

But you can pre-order the discs.

Yeah...that's a good plan.

For the last 6 months, I got the distinct feeling that people in charge of content weren't talking to people in charge of hardware. This is what happens.

There won't be a Windows 11.
Just updates to 10.

I have a feeling that will be a video card type support update, not at an OS level necessarily.

That might be possible with video games but even than it might cause problems. The only good way to support HDR/WCG on a computer would be to support it at the operating system level. I guess that a service pack update could make the necessary changes. I haven't heard anything from Microsoft but Apple has started introducing support for WCG (DCI P3 and Rec. 2020).
