Which contradicts neither of the points I made. In fact you just proved one of them: quite hard to find in mainstream outlets. You had to seek them out from elsewhere since, as you admit, "not a store anywhere near me in the UK sold them". So thank you for backing up my point.

And I dare say, most consumers, if forced to only get their media by shopping online would then opt for download/streaming as it's quicker and more convienient, which would only force 4k BDs into an even smaller niche, possibly so small as to make it not worth the studios time to sell. So if you want your 4K BDs, you better hope retail isn't as dead as you seem to think it is. Last edited by Selaboc; 01-10-2015 at 05:53 PM. |

Does JPEG support HDR, rec 2020, and 10 bit?

What is the video rental scene like over in the US. Do you still have a lot of stores around or are they shutting down?
Over here the ones which are still open are only threre to serve the older generation who arent computer savvy. Most of them have closed down and I cant see the rest of them lasting the year out. Ive spoken to various owners of the stores and they say the same thing... Cause? Online downloads... When a new movie comes out people dont rent, they download it now. It will eventally kill off physical media all together. We all know it...but it may be sooner rather than later... MS and Sony already hinted at it with their game consoles and are pushing it now harder than ever. People are now downloading their games and buying from the online marketplace instead of buying in store. They try to get 10 years out of a console so these could quite possibly be the last physical media consoles. And they dont support 4K. 4K as a physical media could well go the way of Laserdisc...especially if VHS aka DVD continues to be the consumers choice. It definitely wont get the traction it needs to be the one and only media for all. Theres no time... |

Digital Bridge/Extension sounds like AACS managed copy since it would allow the disc to be copied to a hard drive. That would be a great feature but the studios have the tendency to get paranoid and back out of ideas like this. |

Your comments make it sound like buying physical media online and buying downloads or streaming online are very similar, but buying physical media in a store is completely different. Last edited by PenguinMaster; 01-11-2015 at 07:49 AM. |

Yea online shopping is a game changer this time: the cost of storing physical media in is minimal. Blu Rays have been manufactured for a decade so the disc cost should be low. The only bottleneck will be the cost of studios remastering.

Next; I have been shopping 4K 3D TVS the last few months. Even without 3D content the new TVs convert to 3D in vivid detail. Maybe the new TVs just convert on their own and it's sick so as long as the transfer is 8/4K the disc doesn't need to be in 3D format just change the TV settings to 3D. |

I have been wondering for the last few days, is it now pointless to buy blu-rays
seeing as Ultra HD Blu-ray is just around the corner? I was planning on buying House Of Cards as well as The Blacklist but I am assuming this will be released on the new format seeing as it was filmed in 4K. So yeah I don't wanna have to buy the series twice! ![]() just wait for the Ultra HD Blu-ray release... So I have decided to not buy any new releases on blu-ray only old movies like Supernova or Lake Placid because I doubt those movies will ever be released on Ultra HD Blu-ray. |
