Did I miss something? There was a bear in this movie? Or is that radagast? Anyway I think ill get this.version then wait for an extended box set.

That's Tom Bombadil, a magical entity that shape-shifts from person to bear to whatever. He will appear in the second and third Hobbit movies and save the day in the Battle Of The Five Armies.

Hmm, I wonder if the extended cut will be in 3D. I certainly hope so as that's the only way I'd watch the movie.

While I think that more 3D is always a good thing, admittedly the film takes a good while to get going so if you are pressed for time you don't really lose anything by watching the shorter version.

Yes agreed, excessive CG aside I do think these movies are beautifully crafted and pretty stunning to behold. I think all 3 movies are 5 star experiences. More 3D is always welcome and the native 3D photography is pretty stunning.
