I was also going to see if I could find this player at Best Buy. That doesn't surprise me though. It seems Best Buy is in love with Samsung almost everything in regards to the home theater stuff at Best Buy is Samsung. Hey Best Buy maybe you would have room for other Brands if 85percent of your space wasn't Samsung...

This player has now been released in New Zealand at a whopping $NZ1199. Guess I will wait for next year's models and hope for a price reduction, or more competition.

They would certainly explain why the release date in the US is many months after Europe.

Panasonic is actually very popular in the US market and they built excellent video and DAV products. It is true that they have scaled down TV sales in the USA, but not in Canada, South America, Europe and Asia where Panasonic TVs are a popular choice, especially for the higher-end TVs.

Technics, a well respected and extremely popular US and Worldwide brand of 2-channel audio is back after a decade of absence with a strong 2016 product line and they are great again. The rebirth of the world's best selling high-end turntable, SL1200 is leading the new Technics "Grand Class" line up with the beautiful Limited Edition SL-1200GAE, upgraded to deliver the best audio performance, but with a nostalgic 2-channel premium audio look.

We had 4 of Panasonic's DMP-UB900s at our 2016 TV Shootout and they performed flawlessly.

For the price you were expecting them not to?

Or do you just drop them an email and they send it FOC? (remember, loading a new official firmware will overwrite the modded one)

I've used this firmware on several Panasonic BD players but I've never had any need to update the firmware on those, but with new firmware coming all the time for the UB900 (understandable because it's so new) I'm wary of the MR mod right now.
The site wants EUR 20 for every subsequent upgrade.

Thanks SO much for answering that for me! I'll give it a miss because I just don't need it right now, and with the firmware updates still coming thick and fast (latest one was just five days ago) I could end up spending a fair old wodge to keep up (though there was only one outright error that had to be dealt with, which was the TrueHD dropouts), especially as the pound has now gone through the floor!!

I don't think I get your point, unless it's to be deliberately insulting. I'm sure quite a few people are interested in how the Panny converts HDR to SDR, which is one of its USPs. There are plenty of 4K early adopters who don't have HDR, and also some with HDR who'd like the WCG but not HDR and would like the Panny to convert to SDR. Suggesting that those without HDR shouldn't post about UHD players is bizarre.

The funny thing is, I just had to go back to the AVF thread and while I asked the question several times, I can't find a mention of how much the further 'donation' for the updated custom firmware is, apart from one edited post which says "removed donation details as requested" and I don't remember seeing it in the first place, I certainly didn't 'thank' the post at that time.

So now I'm thinking that our charming new member above is the tool who runs the "region freedom" place and he doesn't like people talking about the "donations" in public. Coulda just PM'd me a message right at the start telling me what's what instead of clearly getting so narked over my constant unanswered questions, but there we are.

Oh dear what a pity never mind. Looks like I'm off the firmware list if I ever want it for my UB900, but I've got the custom firmware on another Panny (didn't get it from those guys, mind you) so I'm good.

Yes, I know! I have quite a few region A titles, so was tempted to go ahead with this firmware. EUR 20 for every upgrade is very steep, and I think a bit disingenuous of the site. However, it was my choice to purchase the upgrade the first time around.

I will have to see what I do when a really important FW upgrade comes through on the player.

Over on another forum none of us have worked out a workable way to get the Panny and LG OLED (EF950v) to play nice. The TV's always in HDR mode with the Panny regardless of the content, which doesn't work well for non-HDR content. Anyone over here have a solution?

Cant you manually force SDR on the LG? I got a brand new Oled C6 coming in a few days, but I have the Samsung UHD player so not sure what the problem is when hooked up to the Panny. Wish I could help.

Does the Samsung player do the same thing?

Based on the feedback I have gotten from other Oled users with the Samsung hooked up, no. I will be able to personally find out in a few days as my Oled C6 is being shipped today

Seems like the Canadian release date for Panasonic DMP-UB900 is July 20th.

Quote from a post by David Susilo over at AVS:

Quote:
Once I got used to to the UB900, I now dislike my K8500. So much so I sold my K8500, bought my review unit and pre-ordered another UB900 directly from Panasonic so I can get one on July 20th (Canadian release date).
