To most it is, but there are a few of us that use good old Analogue 7.1 connections I use such from my BDP-S5000ES and am very pleased with the results. With the introduction of ATMOS and DTS: X the pull to upgrade is more warranted. I don't suppose the Panny decodes these internally even for "poverty 5.1 or 7.1" due to the speaker calibration needed on the receiver.

I still use the analog audio outs as well. Hopefully the Oppo will have them.

I would be very surprised if this wasn't the case!

I think they said at the latest, but I expect to see one before the end of the year, fingers crossed anyway, as I want a Sony player.

Hopefully the price will have come down a little by then too. I know new tech is normally priced high, but this is still essentially blu-ray, just a better version, so the player prices are a little higher than had hoped really. I mean, I was expecting around £300-£400 but wasn't expecting it going back up to £600-£700, like when DVD first came out.

Oh and a backlit remote is a nice touch.

As I've said before, I considered paying £400 for Panasonic's high-end regular BD player (BDT700) so bolting on another 200 sovs for UHD playback is a no-brainer. Chuck in two movies and that'll do me! Mid-april, here I come!

Sure hope they equal or exceed the capabilities of the LG BD player app (iOS & Android) with a new one from Panasonic.

The main menu on the UB900 appears to be a lot different from the Panny players of the past.

3D is long dead.

Samsung and LG are saying that, soon every big company will follow too.

It's not really, they've just swapped the 'cross' layout for a row.

UHD player:

5 year old DMT-BDT310 (background is poster's own ):

The cellowrap looks to still be present on the top of the player, hence the ultra-gloss. You can see areas where it has been peeled toward the back and more obviously toward the front. (Forgive image repetition, as I haven't figured out how to *SPOILER* the hyperlinks, yet.

Why such an aversion to the panny? Their players have smoked all the sony ones I've tried in recent years, but I know you like the big S so I've answered my own question.

I thought Panasonic was well regarded. You're obviously a very knowledgeable industry insider, so which brand do you favor?

EDIT: Geoff posted while I wrote my post. Question answered, I guess.

How does it handle Dolby ATMOS and DTS X? I have just bought some speakers I intend to use as ATMOS channels as such I want the player to be able to pass the DTSX/ATMOS to the receiver for it to decode, ideally the sound will be a minimum of 5.1.4 or greater with no loss of quality.

I would rather buy this player instead of the Samsung player mainly because of the problems I have heard the Samsung player has, also the included titles suit me far better than The Martian.

AFAIK Dolby Atmos and DTS X formats are bitstreamed as extensions to the respective lossless Dolby/DTS formats, so as long as the player squirts TrueHD and DTS-HD over HDMI to a compatible amp (true of most players made for, ooh, the last 8 or 9 years) then it's fine.

Sorry for forgetting the link, im mobile at the moment.

But the price has been announced for the Panasonic uhd player and it's roughly 25-40%cheaper than predicted.

One of those European sites has the launch price at 600 instead of the leaked 1000 and is launching mid april
