If you got worked up over who owns who, who has an agreement to who, and who paid who to liscence technology you would go crazy.

GE, who makes all kinds of things, including DVD players, owns NBC, who owns a ton of stuff and the rights to TV Shows and some movies. So what.

Lots of companies develop a technology and other companies liscense it.

In the end, It really isn't a matter of WHO owns the rights, but if you can make a profit selling YOUR product on that format.

If not, your going to see grumblings and other agreements like the one today by paramount.

This move from paramount is to try and make more money then they otherwise would.

It's not going to happen people. Bay does not have the pull, and the deal only excludes Spielberg DIRECTED stuff

Warner could afford to wait on Poltergeist, there is no possible way Paramount will wait on TF

You would be surprised what kind of pull a big name director gets when they are responsible for the Studios highest grossing live action film. It gets even better when right behind you, you have Steven Speilberg.

If there is ever a time to voice your opinion, it is now. Otherwise it truly is a lost cause.

I don't see any reason to stop enjoying BD. So we get a few less movies for whatever time. BD still has the majority of studio support and vastly greater CE support. Not that this doesn't sting but it's not the end of the world either.

I guess the bribe money was enough to make up for the losses they're going to take for having shunned the format that's been winning by at least a 2-1 margin since last November.

If they really wanted to make money, then they would have stayed neutral and continued to milk both sides for as long as they could.

I don't buy it. It doesn't make any good business sense.

Default Average Joe Response to Paramount

I told my brother (average Joe) today about Paramount leaving blu-ray to make movies just for HD-DVD and his response was for me to go buy a blu-ray/HD-DVD combo player.

So everything is playing out just as Microsoft wanted it to.

Create fear and confusion among the everyday consumer to slow and eventually stop high definition discs advancement to the maintream.

I really hate to say it, but it's working.

It's working guys.

Right now I just feel gutted.

It's not god testing us at all.... it's the anti-christ Bill Gates taking away my Op Prime from me....

Default To those of you switching to format neutral..

Hey guys,

I implore you not to switch from a bluray supporter to a format Neutral. this is exactly what HD DUD group want, and it explains why paramount is in their pocket now. what i think we should do is:

1) first completely ignore the announcement made by paramount.
2) boycott paramount and that includes NOT PURCHASING their DVD releases, and theatrical releases.
3) continue sending them letters of objections.
4) purchase Sony's, Fox's, and Disney's releases because they are exclusive first, then Warner's releases comes second. (IN OTHER WORDS CONTINUE YOUR SUPPORT TO BD.)

This is all but a dirty strategy by MS, and Toshiba to cause an episode of divide and conquer to Beat BD. meaning if you become a format neutral, and purchase an HD DVD player, then you took the bait, and possibly could contribute to hurting bluray's sales.

IF THEY WANT WAR, THEN THEY SHOULD GET IT.

The gloating on another forum I frequent has begun from HD-DVD supporters. People seem to think Microsoft will throw out money to more studios. Also people that were on the fence all seem to feel that that both will lose now and say they will buy neither format with today's news. And by on the fence, I mean on the fence of jumping into the HD market by picking Blu ray. All my positive work towards convincing other people to go Blu just took a major dive today.

Er, I have got to ask you all this: what makes you think that Transformers is an HD-DVD exclusive?

It specifically says it does not include Spielberg movies. Spielberg was the producer. AKA, Spielberg. Aka, still going to be released on both.

So whats the fus?

I'm sure everyone has heard about how fans of the Jericho TV series convinced CBS to bring back their show (sending thousands of pounds of nuts to CBS).

What if Paramount received thousands of transformers from blu ray fans? Would they listen?

i thought it over. count me in. paramount sds from now on. hd-dvd won't be extorting me. blu-ray full steam. all blu-ray owners must adopt this stance otherwise the other guy wins. fence sitters do nothing but make microsoft smile.

I'll continue supporting Blu ray solely, but this is still terrible news for the HD format in general.

Those people are idiots: M$ doesn't want HD DVD to win, it wants the war to go on for so long that both formats die. To that end, they'll give HD DVD just enough help (read: $$$) to accomplish this, and no more. Anyone with half a clue knows what M$'s endgame is: mid-def downloads using their proprietory software.
