Paramount has never been that forward thinking.

Yes, I've posted this months and months ago here and on AVMS, Paramount is a follower, not a leader.

Cool Slight problem with your Kill HD-DVD analogy

Given the cost of the HD recorded media, at some point who cares about the cost of the player.

I have over 70 Bluray movies and that cost is far beyond the $1000 I played for a Panasonic player earlier this year. The key is to keep my investment in recorded media as an asset as new player capabilities are introduced as was done with the SD-DVD, of which I have over 270 movies.

I anticipate a multi-format player compatible with CD, SACD, SD-DVD, Bluray and HD-DVD is the ultimate solution and then everybody wins. If not I will have several playback devices as I did when I had a turntable, CD Player, VHS and DVD player. I still use a CD Player for audio and Bluray player for movie media.

In the near future I will purchase a theater AV processor and then the CD-Player will most likely be retired.

The cost of multi-format player will be inexpensive once the format standards are widely adopted to meet the consumer needs. At some point the lesser format will be dropped as new larger capacity media is introduced. It is pretty hard to find LPs, Beta and VHS recorded media these days while the turntable and VHS players are still available.

Why Blu?
While this is not a sexy approach:
Bluray offers 50GB Storage and 54 Mbit/sec bandwidth.

HD-DVD provides a second best 30GB Storage and 34.2 Mbit/sec bandwidth.

Why would anyone accept 40% less from a new media format that you will have to live with for the next 20 years and beyond? Personally, I don't do second best.

Any perceived player format advantages/disadvantages can be resolved and upgraded with future player capabilities - however the HD media limitations are forever!

Do the math, 50 is more than 30!

I'm buying 50 because I know the media will have greater capacity to meet the needs for the future.

Just think how useful the CD media would have been over the last 25 years if it was 40% larger capacity - 900MB to 1GB instead of only 650-700MB.

Enough said!

I think they need to awaken the sleeping giant that is the ps3 owners. instead of making tht 5 free by mil in rebate, make it in store. frys has the 2 free in store titles along with the 5 by mail in rebate. have a display next to the ps3 with the free movies in their. 1 column for each category. I would like to see that. mail in rebates put a lot of people off. you're never sure if you did it right, if you checked the wrong box, if it even got their. so a lot of people don't do it. make it in store. make it in store

All of th exlcusive studios need to release all the big movies they know people will buy. This will also suck more new people into HD. I see some of the back catalog movies are crap. Not sure why..

it would definitely on BD.
That is one way to kill it.

BDA might want to add this:
Disney - release all Disney classic (unlikely, even in DVD, they release like 2-4 DVD per year for classic titles)
FOX - release the sound of music, anna and the king
Warner - made BD release for all HD DVD titles.
That would surely kill HD DVD almost instantly

FOX should announce a 6 disk set of all the Star Wars films. This would quiet all HD-DVD fanboys.

Nice idea, guys, but unrealistic. It would ages for the studios to create decent Blu-ray encodes of all their big hits. I'd rather have a few excellent quality titles on a fairly regular basis than 50 shite, Universal-style rush jobs. Quality over quantity!

I agree with this. Not with this:

I don't care which side its on, I just don't like FUD in any form. I have yet to see any Universal picture not look great. I actually have yet to see more than 1 title in any format not look great. That 1 title was Total Recall. Everything else on either side was awesome.

I'm 100% Blu, but Waiting didn't impress me. Evryone looks like they were painted in for most shots. Van Wilder wasn't bad, but it left me little lacking. Quite strange considering how beautiful Weeds, Stargate and Reservior Dogs are(also from LionsGate).

But I suppose more care was given to the latter mentioned than the raunchy comedies.

EDIT: I forgot to include the original BD release of The Fifth Element because of it's re-issue.

I didn't see either of those, but I did see Stargate. I've also seen The Thing, The Mummy, King Kong and a slew of others all which looked great.

Bottom line, I can't say one format looks better than the other. They both look great to me. And instead of supporting one format and having about 30 High Def titles in my netflix queue, I have over 60.

I disagree. If LOTR and SW were to be announced as Blu exclusive, it would be all over except for mopping up the blood.

I don't think it would end it outright, but it would get a lot of people to buy blu-ray players. How many movies these new blu-ray owners purchased following these two titles would be the key.

Default What Paramount Has Really Done!

Come on people, read between the lines, Paramount is stooging us. They know Bluray is the superior format and they did this whole "schpiel" to get you to buy out their stock of Blurays, because were afraid we will never see them again.

I just read another forum about some guy who bought all the Paramount Blu-rays off Amazon. and Another saying that they are flying off the shelves online and in stores. This whole plan of theirs is pretty smart. Its one of the oldest trick in the book.

Trust me, the stock wont be gone for awhile, they will replenish and restock. Life will go on. This is their plan to make more money. THINK ABOUT IT!

Fox has no authority to release them unfortunately. It is entirely up to George Lucas... just like Spielberg has complete control over his movies. It will be a while before we see SW on Blu. Remember how long it took for the original trilogy to be released on DVD...
