...as painful as it might be for some, I think staying blu-only will pay off in the end - every dollar that goes to HDDVD encourages them to continue. and for dual-release titles, every $ that goes to blu ray makes the HDDVD strategy seem that much more futile.

Besides, It's not like sony, warner and disney ain't giving us some SWEET titles to hold us over!

I've never doubted Blu's superiority, however, It's all about the movies for me.

I have therefore decided that whenever a time comes that I am convinced Paramount titles wont be released on Blu-ray ever, I will go neutral... so in other words, probably after these 18 months are up and we find out where things stand with P'mount!

Blu-ray 100% though for now!

I almost can't agree with that logic. On the one hand, I can see how the public perception changes when all you see is the one console in all the major outlets. "This is what everyone has." While I did own an original Atari 2600 (Ugh, what was I thinking.), my next "game system" was actually my old TI-99/4A computer. Graphics were definately better than the Atari 2600. Like a computer of today, I eventually used it for everything. In time I moved on to the Sega Master System (8 bit) and Sega Genesis (16 bit with stereo).

But my point is, I know I wanted the Sega Systems, and not any more Atari nor NES. Why? The titles I wanted most was by Sega. In my opinion, the best games.

Same reason I bought blu-ray. If I can't get the movie I want from Paramount, I WILL get another movie I want from the other guys and shun Paramount for the few titles I would enjoy. Same way I shunned any rare NES titles I liked. Majority rules.

Now that we nearing the end of the first week of the "blu-monday" announcement by Paramount, my fury is subsiding and I can think clearer. It is true what another member has said. Blu-ray is already all over Europe and clearly the market leader in conjunction with the USA. I spent 500 bucks on this player, and I can enjoy the same 3 or 4 titles just so many times. I am cautiously optomisitic and will slowly start buying blu-ray titles again.

And if anything happened to your hard drive or the file itself, you are either screwed or at best will have to download it again. When you think of the size of HD movies, yes this really is a pain in the balls.

I'm 100% Blu or bust. I have all the pay channels on Dish, so I can transfer any of them to a external hard drive if need be.

Exclamation Sony, please sweeten the blu-pot and NOT sit on your hands.

The Paramount "blu-monday" announcement is just a shot across the port side of the blu-ray ship. It won't end there. Sony (and blu-supporters) can't sit comfortably on their hands and smugly respond, "You guys missed." Because other shots will be fired. More ground could be lost. All week long we held our breath at Paramount until we are "blu in the face" in response to their bomb shell. They are not shaken, nor intimidated by consumer outrage.

I hear Best Buy is having a sale on blu-ray titles. Well, ALL blu-ray titles should be lowered in price to make it more attractive than HD-DVD. HD-DVD has come this far largely because of the market segment which goes with the least expensive option that gives them what they want. This is a VERY large market segment.

If blu-ray titles don't come down in price, HD-DVD looks all the more attractive. Ok, we can't buy back Paramount just yet. But we can woo new customers to go blu.

I hope Sony is watching. New titles will be great, but better prices will keep the blu-camp loyal and happy. I'd buy two blu-ray titles for $20 each, or just one at $30. You guys are smart, do the math.

I mean c'mon, they have 30 billions cash in the bank, while other companies are struggling just to turn profit. They have billions of revenue from the OS and office suite monopoly, what more could they want? If that's not greedy, I don't know what is
Well I hate M$ too, but your questions about "what more could they want" show a lack of understanding about corporations, especially publicly traded ones like M$. No matter how much money you are making now, investors really only care about how much you'll be making next year. If you make $30B this year then you better have a plan to make $33B next year, a 10% increase. If you can't grow then you suck and people will sell. No one cares about what you just gave them, only what you will give in the future. If they came out next year and said, "Hey we made $20B, isn't that great!?" Everyone would sell.

I'm fully expecting Sony / BDA to cross the red ship's T and fire a devastating broadside within the next few days.

Good deals on players and media would definitely help.

while knocking down prices will certainly help (picked up Black Hawk Down for $14 on BR @ bb!!!), I think sony is SERIOUSLY dropping the ball by NOT tapping into the PS3 community for more BR sales. I was taken aback (but not completely surprised) by the #'s of PS3 owners who apparently had no idea their machines were full-fledged BR players. If the #'s were even remotely close, there's another million or so BR consumers out there that aren't buying anything! Get on the ball sony, you know in certain cases you have to blatantly obvious to get through to some consumers - how 'bout just a huge promo banner to hang in front of CC's and BB's and walmart's for just ONE weekend that simply say - "PS3's also play High Def Blu-ray movies!!!" that's it. keep it simple.

I agree totally with your statement. Help stop the madness that began this week. Continue to support Blu! I know I am. I've bought more titles this week then I ever have.

Why Sony? If it were DUD well it would be Toshiba and Toshiba or Toshiba, sorry forgot Intel and Microsoft. But this Blu so what about Philips? Panasonic? Pioneer? Not to mention Apple and host of others.

This is not Microsoft Toshiba vs Sony it's Microsoft Toshiba vs well almost everyone else.

He means because Sony makes the PS3 .. and he was refering to PS3 owners in particular. If Sony has money in BDA.. and makes the PS3 it would make sense for them to advertise the PS3 being a BD player. At least that is what I got out of his post. All Sony has to do is include a sheet of paper in the PS3 that is all about the BD player and information. Make it big and flashy.

I wish all tempted 'neutrals' would follow this example and just suspend judgement on HD-DVD for 18 mo. In the meantime keep on with BD.

Default advertising...

... how much clearer can you get than putting the blu-ray symbol on the front of the box, the videos running on their retail kiosks and having them diplayed across the isle from a standalone player with a video stream of blu? The games even carry the blu-ray logo all over them. Maybe a commercial on tv or at the beginning of every dvd made by blu-ray supporters, and the logo to pop up at the beginning of every game. Still, some people are just dense, retail employees like myself have to spell it out for them - and we need to so that the word does spread... every customer, every time!

To some people those details mean nothing. Sony really need to package the ps3 with a HDMi cable & Free Blu Ray - that way if you have a HDTV you can hook up straight out of the box and start watching movies, I honestly believe once people see Blu-ray there's no going back
