this is a VERY good idea. I'm sure Michael Bay won't be excited to hear that he, and all talent associated with the movie, are losing significant royalties on the blu-ray sales of this film so paramount can line it's pockets without cutting them in on it.

Going by 300's numbers I bet this movie would sell well over 300k copies on Bluray alone if released today... More by Xmas as more players would be out there. That is a TON of royalties. Wow, talk about a backdoor for a studio to get around having to pay royalties!

Some people out there are freaking out, I'd hate to see them in a REAL crisis. After the shock is over in a day or two, everything will be normal, no need to run out in front of a bus. Transformers seems to be the only movie people are talking about, I'll get it on DVD if I can't import it, i'm not spending $400 to watch it on HD-DVD.

He means like snotty knee-jerk Transformers fanboys who got so upset that they didn't get their movie that they literally blame Paramount, Sony, Spielberg, and the Whole Darn War in General, that they're singlehandedly going to fight the whole antiwar revolution in their basem...er, living room.

(Thing is, only studios are gullible enough to think Microsoft or Katzenberg have "won" or "fooled" anybody with Transformers and Shrek:
Those who actually have to buy these things knew the War was over the minute the word "Blockbuster" was uttered--And the tech-press is going to have a field day strategically ripping the curtain open on this one, and showing Microsoft standing there like Frank Morgan's Wizard.)

They just reposted the news, but it doesn't exactly look like they are excited about it, which is all the more reason to start flooding their forum. Of course don't just spam it, be considerate.

That should be pretty easy considering HD DVD is so easy to hack courtesy of MS's own HD DVD add-on.

Would be good if he and Steven Spielberg could make a stand on this one.

Default How will Sony react?

The paramount announcement today changes everything.

Sony of course has the most interest in countering the new momentum that this will bring to HD DVD, but how will they react?

On the hardware side, I think they need to move to price parity with HD DVD standalones by the christmas buying season.

On the software side.... how many really huge catalog titles do they have in their back pocket?

Price parity with what? A 1080i player? There isn't such at thing available for Blu-ray. You need to look at their next player, which is $399. And I expect you'll see parity or better for those.

I have a feeling that Sony knew this was coming and held back the Fox news to neutralize the news from Paramount...

You, as individuals however can make choices based on morals, principals and personal tastes. Each individually we don't have much power but collectively over time movements can have surprising results.

Where am I going with this? Boycotting non Blu-ray movie is a start but it's more like just treating the symptom. The real cure is to address the root cause, in this case Microsoft. Microsoft is all about eliminating customer choices contrary to what they would have you believe (like where is the Blu-ray add-on for the 360 ).

Whenever people buy any Microsoft monopoly funded products (Microsoft Vista, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Zune, Microsoft Xbox360, Microsoft based smartphone, etc.) they are actually funding Microsoft war machine that constantly buys exclusivity in all their markets to further extend their monopoly. An endless cycle as long as people keep feeding the fire and buying Microsoft's products.

I know many of you (like me) use a lot of their products and couldn't replace them all right away, but when comes the next time to upgrade or make a new purchase, thinks carefully about whether or not you really want to feed the monster and indirectly hurt your choice as a customer down the road (such as Blu-ray).
Yep. Started replacing them awhile ago. As a bonus - Macs, Linux, PS3 are all far superior products to the buggy software and failing hardware produced by MS.
