I agree. The time for recouping R&D costs with higher prices is over. They need to win this thing, and they need to win it now.

Bring standalones with price parity of HD DVD.

Drop the PS3 to $399.

Get more B&M stores to go exclusive--Best Buy, Wal-mart, and Circuit City.

It'll be game over if the above are met.

Apple computers are superior, easier, smarter, light-years ahead of Micro$oft... and just cooler all around!
Microsoft has always been the kind of company to copy (or steal, or monopolize) other people's work and claim it as their own. Windows was based on Mac OS. Vista is an exact copy of Mac OS 10.4! (It's actually really really pathetically sad).
I have done well myself not buying into Micro$oft's war machine. Just get a mac, use non-M$ products, avoid windows when you can. I don't blame Bill Gates that much anymore.. but what he created is a monster!

BOYCOTT MICRO$OFT!

I hope this:
Hardware: Move the S300 down to $299 and introduce S500 for $499 (profile 1.1).
Software: More titles.

The nuances between 1080i and 1080p will be lost on consumers.

Sony needs a standalone that costs the same as the cheapest Toshiba.

He may not like it, but if there is a contract signed giving this movie HD-DVD exclusivity, nothing can be done. Unless there is a loophole somewhere it is DVD for me on this one.

Well Paramount could just stop releasing movies in HD until the HD DVD agreement expires.

I am writing to you in regard to the recent press release announcing HD-DVD neutrality on the part of Paramount and Dreamworks.

In the face of superior Blu-ray disc sales this move would appear to be both illogical and against the interests of consumers who wish to purchase the best product possible.

I for one am accutely aware of the technological superiority of the Blu-ray format and the need to end the current format war in order that the HD optical disc format can continue to grow as a viable sales medium.

This move will serve only to sow further consumer confusion and apathy and eat into everyone's profit margin in the long run, no matter what monetary gains this deal have offered your company in the extreme short term.

Thankyou

It does suck a lot for the creators though. They don't get royalties on Paramount's $150,000,000 check. So they get screwed out of (in Transformer's case) hundreds of thousands of sales.

The way to get through a crisis is to evaluate the situation, consider your options, and choose the best one.

The situation we have is a prolonged format war, which historically have shown that if there is no clear winner, all formats involved will fail. The reason for the prolonged war is Microsoft's support.

Our options are to continue to support blu-ray, and enter in a direct battle of cash with MS. Not much chance of winning that fight.

We can go format neutral, help to prolong the war, and eventually wind up with two unsupported players and a handful of discs for each. Not a very attractive option.

Option three is to say screw it, pull a Fox, and sit this one out for a while. No more of my money down the drain while the companies make their backroom deals, and once the dust settles evaluate the new situation and make a decision.

I hope the outcome is Blu-ray as the only format, but it looks more like an endless war leading to downloads. I'll never buy into that, so it's back to DVD.

I am F@#$@#@#$ING pissed off. i am hoping that we don't lose another studio for HDDUD. this HDDUD crap should have been done along time ago, now they are playing dirty.

I hope that's not true, because Vista is a steaming pile of crap. I'm definitely leaning toward a Mac whenever I buy a new computer. I hate Vista, and Linux is broken, so that leaves Apple as the only viable option.

After writing off HD-DVD I think it's time to start accpecting that both are here to stay for a while. I'll probally pick up the Xbox 360 HD add add or the Toshiba HD-A2. I'm not going to miss out on all the Star Trek stuff.

Just when I thought HD-DVD was on the ropes.....wow.....huge!
