Brenda Ciccone
Paramount Home Entertainment

Dear Brenda,

I am writing to express my dislike for the decision today of paramount to end its support of Blu-Ray titles and not release future titles in both formats.

I only own a blu-ray player, and have no desire to ever own HD-DVD as I feel it is not the better technology. Blu-Ray has shown itself to store more information, and is supported by more studio's and your decision to stop releasing on Blu-Ray is upsetting.

This forces me to begin a self-imposed ban on purchasing any Paramount title on any format, until I can once again buy your titles on Blu-Ray, which is the preferred format for me.

- My name.

Think about it. Lets say that bluray does go away (BLASPHEMY) you still have the great quality movies and a ps3 that will continue to play the movies for years to come. I am going out to buy a few right now.

Don't let HD-DUD fanbois get ya down. Anybody who can seriously say HD-DUD is a better format like them just isn't worth listening to.

The only Star Trek stuff any good is the movies. The best movie is Wrath of Kahn. I guess I will buy some dvd software that will allow me to burn the movie and then buy me a blu-ray burner and burn it to blu-ray then I will have Wrath of Kahn on blu-ray... more than one way to skin a cat right?

I've already told my wife that we are not getting an HD-DVD player even though she really wants transformers. Its on principle. Side note.... I thjought it was funny when the XBOX 360 transformed in the movie. The writing was already on the walls

I think the best case scenario with Transformers is Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg gets together and say 'we dont want you to release it on HD DVD, its either dual or none.' I would say Blu-ray only, but with the announcement today it just wont happen. If Spielberg has a say in this, Michael Bay + Speilberg would definitely have some pull. Im sure HD DVD group made sure they will get their money's worth by saying how many movies Paramount have to produce for them per week, etc.

Guys, it happened, crying about now doesnt help the situation. Lets just wait and see how BDA is really gonna recover from this. We'll see how it all work out this holiday season... Then if things dont go well, we'll start panicing then

Angry We need New Line Cinema on our side now!!!

I don't care what it cost, Sony should lower their hardware prices to $399 for the PS3 and $299 for stand alone players and return the favor by kicking some cash to New Line for their exclusives!!!

I can't believe the amount of overreactions I've seen in these posts today.

PARAMOUNT WAS PAID CASH TO GO HD-DUD EXCLUSIVE BECAUSE THE MARKET HAS ALREADY SHOWN THAT CONSUMERS PREFER BLU-RAY AND IT IS WINNING.

This is clearly an act of desperation from the HD-DUD camp.

Not only am I not on the fence, but I am now more committed to Blu-ray than ever before.

No, I am NOT going to run out crying and purchase an HD-DUD player. Doing so will be playing into HD-DUD's hands, and I am not sucker enough to fall for it.

By the way, Titanic is only distributed by Paramount in North America. FOX is the distributor of the film for the rest of the world.

When the Indiana Jones films are finally released in hd, they will at least be on both formats, and even possibly a Blu-ray exclusive. If anyone would bother to go back and read the last sentence of the news release, they will see that this HD-DUD exclusivity does not apply to any Spielberg films.

There was another disc format war over 20 years ago that was just like this one. It was between the LDA (LaserDisc Association) and RCA and their rival format, the CED VIdeo disc, which used a "needle in groove" approach very similar to vinyl records. I remember clearly that the CED disc was declared a winner over the far superior LaserDisc because the players were cheaper. Well, LaserDisc won out, and because of it the optical disc technology survived and gave birth to the Compact Disc, which lead to the development of the DVD, and finally, the two rival HiDef disc formats that are battling for supremacy now.

Today, everyone remembers LaserDisc, but I find that very few people remember or were even aware that there was a rival disc format at that time.

Such as it is now with HD-DUD and the superior Blu-ray disc.

So, STOP OVERREACTING and take a deep breath - relax and enjoy your Blu-ray discs 'cause there's a lot more coming. Remember, winning a small victory is not the same as winning the war.

Default What do Sony and other Blu-ray supporters have to do to combat Paramount's move

So what do you think Sony and the other Blu-ray supporters have to do now to combat Paramount's move? Or what can they do to win back those that are deciding to go neutral(I hate to say it but this may include me) or those peope who are deciding to switch over to hd-dvd?

I really don't know what they can do right now. I really wanted blu to win but now there will be no clear cut winner

thanks in advance for your replies

I just emailed them saying I'm disappointed on their move. I also added that the PS3's are selling quickly and that they are losing alot of money from ps3 owners who would buy their movies.

Would love to see it go that low, however, it is more realistic to go to $399.

I agree with clownface's price structure. Make the standalones $299 and the PS3 $399.

Default Bluray Backing is the Problem

Being a superior format doesn't matter to the studios, the problem is that bluray is a Sony format, which is also a competing movie studio. By supporting this format the studios are surely making money from the software, but are also indirectly sharing profits from all of their movies with Sony. I think that is the underlying problem. What are your thoughts?
