As far as the discs, they might be able to subsidise a price cut by paying off all the BD studios but this is extremely unlikely.
Samsung is already neutral and this will accelerate that.

Panasonic needs to move it's price point down as well.

Not the point. You can't get manufacturers to support your format and then release a cometing model and sell it at a loss. They're going to tell you to F-off.

Sony also owns a record label, but I don't see other record labels boycotting CD just because one of their competitors gets royalties from every disc sold.

Cd's are not a competing format by Sony, I just think these studios like to stick it to Sony any way they can.

I made a decision to support blu-ray and i will kep doing that. The only movie I really wanted from Paramount was Transformers and since thats done with for now so be it.I can still get other movies that I will enjoy from other studios thats backing blu-ray.
If you really look at Paramount libary there is much new movies that was a keeper so we loose Paramount, doesn't hurt my wallet at all i'll spend the money somwhere else. When all the dust as settle on this Paramount should realize that they will lose and in a big way.

same here..just sent my letter.

i can foresee some beaurocratic bullshit like this as a reply:

"Dear valued viewer,

We apologize for any concerns and inconveniences the studio may have caused you in its recent decision to adopt HD-DVD exclusively as the HD format of choice. Rest assured that Paramount pictures and its supporting studios are working hard to ensure the best possible HD viewing experiences are brought to you, our valued consumer. In essence, this decision was made strategically to deliver movies in HD-DVD in the consumers best interest.

We thank you for your continued support for Paramount and its supporting studios and look forward to serving you for your home entertainment movie needs."

Paramount's announcement was worldwide, so it sounds unlikely unless someone else owns distribution over there.

It's up to Sony. They can keep the price disparity and sell fewer and fewer units, and watch their format slide away.

Sony (and Panasonic) have to realize that studio support is now neutral. They've lost that advantage. The deciding factor is now price. Compete on that front or they'll lose.

Panasonic also has IPR in Blu Ray, so they're in the same boat.

Bring standalones with price parity of HD DVD.

Drop the PS3 to $399.

Get more B&M stores to go exclusive--Best Buy, Wal-mart, and Circuit City.

It'll be game over if the above are met.
And start playing dirty hardball like MS does. Outbid people, do whatever it takes.

I'm tired of seeing "Sony" singled out. It's the entire BDA that needs to be called out for this. Look at all those big boys! They need to start acting like a team and used that combined might to win!

Beat MS at their own games and do WHATEVER IT TAKES.

To Whom It May Concern:

I have just seen the press release detailing the decision of Paramount Pictures to exclusively support HD-DVD. I believe this decision is short-sighted, foolish, and a mistake. Your company has sold more movie copies on Blu-ray than HD-DVD, and you have also openly admitted to the size constraints or limitations of a HD-DVD disk. I believe the prudent decision would have been to remain neutral between the two opposing formats until there was a distinct winner, regardless of the side. However, now you have managed to offend many Blu-ray supporters. Many people, such as myself, that have adopted either format early take this format war seriously. Blu-ray has made many strides towards being the dominant format and ultimate winner. I believe you should fear the many customers that you have just lost by making such a poor decision. I hope that your company reports lower earnings next quarter, and that you regret this very moment.

The thing with listing Disney titles is this. I was at the Annual shareholders meeting for the Walt Disney Company. one of the items discussed was Disney's anticipation and Mr. Eiger/Iger however you spell the guys name and his statement that Disney is looking to release on both formats in the Hi Def arena to help increase rev streams for their shareholders myself being one of them. Also remember some of the BR exclusives in the US and Canada are not exclusive over in the UK where a Sony pictures release Underworld Evolution and a Buena Vista/Disney release Reign of Fire is also available on HD DVD. There are currently 39 NA BR exclusive titles available to HD DVD owners via UK and Japanese releases all with the English track as the primary so no fiddling around in the menues. So this announcement is going to swing some numbers in the way of HD DVD they were only behind 2-1 and now that Paramount and Dreamworks are fully on board that takes away disk sales from BR and increases numbers for HD DVD so look for that 2-1 advantage to become nill or possibly a deficit in the not to distant future. 2 other releases that were to be BR are the Fantastic 4 movies that are also available now on German release in HD DVD.

Here are 2 sites that have the imports readily available.

Cool

I chose blu-ray because the movies I want are only being released on the format. Once HALLOWEEN, Dawn & Day of the Dead were announced I knew the future looked very Blu!!!!

Paramount has next to nothing that I personally need in my collection.

Don't bet your life on this. Many of us have substantial influence on corporate/governmental buying decisions when it comes to software. "Open source" software as a more economical alternative to MS software has become more viable recently. There may be a time for many of us when the long knives come out.

And to think, I was going to buy Blades of Glory just because... I didn't really want it, but no don't have to worry about it. Looking through all my Blu-ray discs, I have one from Paramount. That is it. And I only bought it on a whim, so I guess I am not missing much but Transformers, and I didn't think that was all that good either and don't get me started on Shrek the 3rd.... That was the worst of the Summer loser movies.

Like jctash and DrinkMore said, it's all about the principle.

I am not willing to invest in a HD DVD player because like Bill Hunt said, it's a terrible idea for the consumers to invest in more than one format. It's not like the video game industry, we can't go with a multi-platform industry for the movies.

Consumers want to buy a movie... on one frickin' single format. Not to mention that it's really confusing for the average consumer.
