this is only a set back for blu, if universal goes neutral, we'll be singing a different tune then.

While I'm concerned, I do expect this isn't going to be the last major move this year... We'll see what (if anything) happens in the next couple of months.

I wouldn't be concerned, BOTTOM LINE is HDDVD doesnt have the titles!!!! Granted, Universal has many films that I would like to own on Blu-Ray, but I believe that the day is coming when all that will change. A major blow would be to get Warner on our side of the fence

Default Paramount Officially Cancels Blu-ray SKUs

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/news...u-ray_SKUs/879

In a note to retailers, Paramount has officially cancelled all previously-announced upcoming Blu-ray releases.

As expected, Paramount won't release a single of its previously-announced upcoming Blu-ray titles, including 'Blades of Glory,' 'Next,' 'Top Gun,' 'The Jack Ryan Collection' and 'Face/Off.' Instead, each of the titles will now be HD DVD exclusive.

Retailers received official word late Monday that all five Blu-ray titles would be cancelled, and that existing orders would not be fulfilled.

Within hours, pre-orders for these titles disappeared from sites like Amazon.com, DVDEmpire and others.

It remains unclear how long Paramount's previously-released Blu-ray titles will remain on stores, and/or whether they're even included in the terms of the studio's exclusivity pact with HD DVD. Needless to say, we'll let you know as soon as any official information comes in.

You know what, I've got a 1080/24p video projector and 7.1 surround speakers. If M$ thinks they can sell me 720p stereo downloads they're out of their minds.

oh and i'am gonna mail them now
You have to compare it to what they would have made distributing Blu-ray movies. It definitely would not have even come close to the reported 150mil.

WoW I don't think I can wait it out, Looks like I'm buying Transformers and Shrek the third on HD-DVD. Hope it isn't Combo Bull shit, but whatever. Transformers is too cool of a movie, well I suppose the people I live with will be happy, they were kinda upset I went Blu Ray only and kept all the blu films for myself to watch at work and when I'm not at home lol.

And I thought my collection of HD DVD's would halt, or see a decrease in growth, it'll probably be at the same rate, now with this new deal. I mean I always said you're always waiting for the next thing to come out with HD DVD. It's not Like Paramount has a huge list like Fox or MGM. Paramount's list fits on your hand.

I just sent a nastygram to Viacom and I hope all Blu-Ray owners do the same. Here is what I sent them:
I have faithfully supported Paramount Studios throughout many years (even their tough years), but with their recent exclusivity deal with the HD-DVD format, I must say that my support for Paramount movies or any other Viacom media has come to an end. I am the proud owner of a Sony Playstation 3 and several Paramount Blu-Ray Disc movies and I was looking forward to future releases especially Transformers, but your poor decision-making skills has prompted millions, yes MILLIONS, of Blu-Ray player owners to boycott Viacom. How can you ignore the 2.5:1 Blu-Ray to HD-DVD sales figures? How can you say to hell with all Blu-Ray owners who have purchased our movies, and turn your backs on us for $150 million? I'm not a marketing consultant or chief financial officer, but shutting the door on over 1 million potential blu-ray customers for a $150 million bribe from HD-DVD makes absolutely NO SENSE whatsoever. I guess losing the Transformers 2 director, Steven Spielberg, and 1 million + Blu-Ray player owners was worth switching over to HD-DVD, huh? I don't expect an e-mail response to this, nor do I want to hear what you have to say, just like Viacom/Paramount doesn't listen to their consumers, to the people paying THEIR bills, the consumers don't want to hear from them. Don't believe me, just go over to Blu-ray.com and LISTEN to all the angry voices, something you should have done before making a stupid decision. Signed Frank Carter, Laredo, TX.

$150m isn't that much money for a movie studio, is it?? So is Paramount desperate for cash or something?

But at least we now know it is an 18 month deal, after which all their titles will head to blu-ray and actually sell in noticeable numbers!!

Paramount have clearly made an enormous error and have utterly misjudged the HD market. They went for a quick buck, but it's gonna cost them so much more.

Well, you've got Spielberg on Indy 4.... That's something.

Indiana Jones Trilogy
Saving Private Ryan
War of the Worlds

If released in the next 12 months will be on Blu-ray exclusively or dual-format. She has worked directly with the Spielberg camp for some time now and she has the understanding that Spielberg has the same agreement with his titles on Universal. So this means that when the following films are released in HDM, they will be on both formats if this agreement holds:

ET
Jurassic Park
Jaws

Now on to the suprising part of the phone call. She mentioned that several Directors, including Michael Bay, Francis Ford Coppola and even James Cameron have voiced their frustration to Paramount with this decision. She said she would not be surprised to see similar agreements reached with Coppola and Cameron as what has been reached with Spielberg.

Does this mean if The Godfather Trilogy and Titanic are released on HDM they will be on both formats? I do not know, but it seems like these Directors are going to put-up a fight.

She also mentioned that today they are getting more complaint calls from talent, producers and executives then yesterday. She said it is a madhouse right now. She also mentioned they recieved thousands of emails from Paramount customers over the past 24 hours voicing their displeasure for this decision.

That is all I have for now. I am going to leave her be for a few days as I can tell she is VERY busy. I may contact her again on Friday.

It will be very intersting to see how all of this falls out. I am starting to have my doubts that Paramount will be HD-DVD exclusive for a year IMO.
