EXACTLY!! it's not really a big loss. If Blades of Glory or Shrek is the best they have to offer, I'll pass.

Nonsense. There are potentially millions of blu-ray users. If they realise just how mad we are, they will realise that 150mil isnt all that much money. Also they should (if they were smart enough) have realised that this move would prolong the format war and keep it a niche market. Im certainly not going to buy their movies on DVD just because they signed this stupid agreement. I will wait until their agreement ends and/or when they back out of it, to buy movies like Transformers.

Later.

I never understand why people say they're going back to DVD. If you have the Blu-ray Player and you have X amount of Blu-ray moives. Then why are you not going to continue buying Blu-rays.

I couldn't go back to 480 NTSC if I wanted to. It looks like crap and upsampling just puts a silk cap on a pig.

I never really cared for the Shrek movies all that much... the biggest one for me is Saving Private Ryan, but seems how Spielberg directed it, looks like it will be coming out on both, or be Blu-Ray exclusive.

This move only gives HD DVD life through 2008, enough time for Toshiba, Warner and Microsoft to recoup any investment and developement money they have injected into the format. Keep in mind that Paramount has been supplying movies to HD DVD already, so this is not really a major change. Fox can more than makeup the void that Paramount leaves, and now the pressure is on both Universal and Paramount to turn out movies that will sell tickets in the theater, and discs to support a format. Up until this year their success has been mediocre.

What I am concerned about is that a software company is beginning to manipulate this whole thing. What does a software company know about film, video, and HDM on disc? Not a damn thing. Microsoft does not want the next generation HDM on disc to be in a competitors console. That would be one of the worse things to happen them since the massive anti-trust lawsuits they have experienced in the past. So this payoff has screwed with the natural progression of things in the film industry just to help their gaming system, VC-1, and their downloading business. Movie lovers should be very pissed about this.

I was thinking yesterday how this might spur retailers into dropping HD DVD much sooner to counter this. I think it's common knowledge they don't like wasting shelf space on 2 formats and I suspect they were being patient watching the end approach. With Paramount about to disrupt this, I would think they would be much more open to dropping HD DVD to ensure a quick end to the war.

I just wish more retailers (on-line or B&M) would see the LONG-TERM damage of this situation. Making profits in the short-term from both formats is nice and all, but in the long run could hurt them if both fail out, or is ends up like M$ would like it. We know what is/and will happen to Paramount for their "lack of vision".
