Default Paramount Hypocrisy

and check this out, coinciding with what you're reporting:

from scott hettrick at hollywoodinhidef.com

"For another head-scratcher (to put it kindly), how about a reflection on Paramount's stated reasons for initially deciding to release movies on the Blu-ray format back in October, 2005. At that time, according to an article I wrote while editor-in-chief at Video Business, Paramount made the decision to go Blu-ray after "more detailed assessment and new data on cost, manufacturability and copy protection solutions" and "the key advantage of including Blu-Ray in PlayStation 3." Hmmm, Blu-ray cost, manufacturability and copy protection solutions have all improved since Paramount's initial decision. Are costs and copy-protection not so important to the studio anymore? Perhaps most curious is that the studio also cited the same key rationale in its announcement on Monday when it abandoned Blu-ray as it did 22 months ago when it adopted Blu-ray, consumer benefit: "this format will provide great benefit for consumers and our shareholders alike."
Well, it was either better for consumers when Paramount released on Blu-ray or it's better for consumers that they do not. It can't be both as it suits Paramount's agenda to say so."

^^ A Microsoft hallmark. They've made it an art form.
I think it was an IBM guy that coined it after his departure from Big Blue. I wasn't around at the time but he claimed that's how IBM sold their mainframes against IBM compatible systems. Back in the day the software was "free". You just had to spend millions on the box and give your children for the annual service.

It's amazing what can happen when you're counting off $150 million in bribes and incentives.

^^ Nice. I wasn't sure about where the acronym had actually originated from.

As much as I would love to have the SW saga on BD I don't see it happening for a while. Look how long it took just to release them on standard DVD. Even if BD wins by the end of 2008 my guess would be we won't see SW on BD until 2012.

I do hope we get a major announcement though... LOTR would be awsome.

While it might not change things i'd say buy paramount blu ray movies while you can let them know what they bought..er lost-$ales because on hd-dud they're
likely not to see many. I REALLY am bumed about shrek, transformers but i'll
NEVER buy hd-dud i'll either netflix the dvd's or buy the sd dvd of transformers
and shrek 3...but as for HD i'm all blu.

As to fox it's time to release star wars and new line needs to release lotr
to provide even more ammo that combined with pixar, pirates and close encounters would obliterate hd-dud by year's end.

Even if the live action star wars wasn't released i'd still be happy to see the
complete clone wars saga on blu-ray...as a single movie not CN micro-episodes.

I find it noble that Lucas does not want to manipulate the format police action. With Microsoft picking off (paying off) the struggling studios maybe he'll rethink this ethics. I'm sure hoping.

So what does that mean when better games start arriving on the PS3?? Is Blu_ray inadvertantly harmed by this??
not at all people watch movies, people play game, if there are some "must have" games that make PS3 sales skirocket people thatnow have a PS3 will play that new cool game and watch movies (so won't hurt BD sales) and people that are buying it for the cool game can now buy movies (good for BD)

Not to mention that games sales willl allow further development of production methodology.

I for one, hope for more games, though its doubtful I will purchase any. It is one of the strengths of BD, i.e. production R&D can be amortized not only with movie discs but with all the other infrasture - camcorders, recordables et al. In the long run it will improve and lower the cost of replication.

I have no intention of boycotting it I was just wondering if others advocating the boycott would and if so how do they justify it.
I don't go to theatres much except for "must see" movies. And even then I wait a bit for when the crowds go down a bit, it makes for a better experience. Normally I am guessing this would be a “must see” but in this case I will wait for the BD.

Default Don't Get Back On The Fence - Show Your Support For Blu!

I've been seeing a lot of posts here from people who are so frustrated with this hi-def war that they are either quitting altogether, going neutral, or going back to DVD.

Any of those decisions will hurt Blu-ray.

We need to keep buying the movies on Blu-ray that we enjoy. Buy that Spidey Boxed Set you wanted. Buy the POTC movies if you love 'em. Get those Pixar flix. Get that Die Hard Quadrilogy. If you like the movie, and you were considering buying it before the war hit this speed bump, then buy it. Don't let Paramounts mistake influence your decision about buying any of the great Blu-ray movies that are out there or those that are on the horizon.

Support the format you believe in. Support the better format. Support Blu. Worst case scenario: you have a bunch of great movies with the best possible 1080p transfer and great audio, mostly lossless, to go with it. You are out nothing! These movies are yours forever! The PS3 will be around for a very long time so you will always be able to get that as a BD player if yours eventually kicks the bucket. There really is no risk by purchasing a Blu-ray movie that you like.

I encourage everyone to participate in the Blu-ray buy-athons and support the format!

Talking Somthing Else To Think About....

Let's just say that blu lost and its been offically anouce and everthing, we then have to disconect the players that we spend x amount of money on and the movies that we loved to had on blu and now we have to pack it all up put it in a box and place it in the basement or the attic, with the other stuff that we had before that didn't quiet work out now we have to start back from scratch with another player(unless you have a multi) and buyback the same movies we had in VHS,LASERDICS,DVD and BLU-RAY in HD DVD.

This is the hardest part of this problem, how are we going to explain all this to our loving and caring wife.

I think we need a good laugh after this week fiasco.
