Default Blu-ray owners, are you intelligent?

If so, I suggest you start acting like it. The title was not to offend but rather get your attention. I see post talking about if Warner goes exclusive then its over for Blu-Ray. Think about what you are saying. HD-DUD had 1 studio (Universal) that was their only exclusive studio for almost 2 years now and did they accept defeat and give up? The PS3 has given Blu-Ray over 5 million players and that number will only grow once the gamers jump on board this holiday season when the games start being released. The way I look at it Warner and Paramount might had planned this from the beginning because look at how many titles they both released... very few and Warner was only porting the movies over to Blu-Ray disk from their HD-DUD encodes (not taking advantage of 50GB space) costing them no extra money. So they figured they could make a little extra money with little risk, then once their contract runs out with BDA they switch over to HD-DUD again and this would have more psychological impact right when it looks like Blu-Ray is the winner.
Another thing HD-DUD did not account for is like it or not this economy is heading for a serious recession within the next year. Do you think people struggling to make mortgage payments and trying to provide food for their families are going to invest in either Blu-Ray or HD-DUD with the uncertainty that surrounds the formats? Guess who will still have some extra spending money to buy Blu-Ray movies? The demographic that does not have to provide for their family and pay a mortgage, that would be gamers (15-25). They will still have their little job side job bringing in spending money and they don't have have to worry about paying bills. (they live at home with parents)
The PS3 is a very powerful tool for Blu-Ray and is not going anywhere. Who wants to invest in that POS X-box 360 that has a flawed design and is certain to give you RRD within a year and leave you without a console for 1 month. So lets calm done with some of the irrational thinking around here, (just what Microsoft wants you to do). Also lets not forget the HUGE advantage Blu-Ray has with the PC market for burning applications and storage. HD-DUD cannot even produce a burner. HD-DUD simply is a stop gap technology that is truly not next generation in anyway shape or form. At first I did support HD-DUD and Blu-Ray but ever since DOUCHEBAG AMIR revealed himself as FUD spreading liar (50GB is vaporware ) I returned my HD player to walmart and vowed never to spend another dime on a format claiming to be next generation that could not even do KING KONG with a Tru-HD soundtrack because of bandwidth limitations from 30GB HD-DUD. Are you going to let Microsoft control you once again with lies and strong arm you into buying the inferior format HD-DUD? I know I am not.

Thanks.. I was hoping more people would get to read this also but the Mods removed my thread and put with this one. I was kind of hoping they would have left it as a single thread some more people would read it especially with the title. Mods can we keep it a single thread. I am starting to feel like I am on AVMS

I still cannot believe some people are cutting and running. Look at it this way. Everyone has been talking about the "blow out" 4th quarter BD is going to have with all of the exclusive releases. What's changed? Nothing. All those exclusives are still coming.

What did we lose? Paramount who had announced what, Blades of Glory, Face/Off, Top Gun, and The Jack Ryan Collection. And they would have had Transformers plus some other announcements WE DID NOT YET KNOW ABOUT. All of these would have been on both formats, so it doesn't change the exclusive releases for BD one bit that were going to drive huge sales. So sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Like I said before, losing Paramount stinks. No way around it. But really, not that much has changed in terms of what we were going to get released on BD later this year. It's going to be a great end of the year, and we'll see what the new year brings!

Is their anyway to contact the mods at this site to beg them to leave my post as a single thread for more views. Also if anybody wants to go post this at AVSforum feel free to because they banned me for being pro blu-ray.

There is no need to cut and run with all the great Blu content coming soon.

And I do not think that real Blu supporters are doing so. It is time to order some Blu.

I'm one of 'em. I've been a Blu-ray supporter since they first introduced the specification. I knew, that backed by Sony, this would be a great format for movies and games. I've been a big Sony supporter since Nintendo and Sony originally announced their co-venture to make the original Playstation console. I was not happy when Nintendo snubbed Sony but I was there supporting the PS1, PS2, and PS3 on day 1 of every launch.

I was also in the mix when DVD was first hitting the market and supported it 100% even through the Divx speed bump which I hope will mirror how I will feel about HD-DVD a few years from now, well after Blu-ray has been declared the hi-def winner.

I knew the PS3 was going to be special with the Blu-ray drive included in the console and I have been nothing but completely happy and blown away by this system. I am really looking forward to what's to come with their games and Hollywood's hi-def Blu-ray movies.

Just because I don't have 4000+ posts under my belt doesn't mean my support/concerns are any less meaningful. Many of us with less than 100 posts seem to have more knowledge about the format than those who have 500 posts or more. I just recently decided to join the forum wanting to voice my own opinions and concerns for the format because I have been following it so closely. I get pi$$ed when people say HD-DVD is better because I KNOW that Blu-ray is superior in every technical way. I feel like I have to defend it. I take a certain amount of pride with me, knowing that I am supporting a format I really believe (and know) is better and I know there are others, like most of the people on this forum, who feel the same way.
United we stand!

Lightbulb The Plan to kill HD-DVD!

Ok its very simple and ingenous.... it may cost alot of money but in the end Blu-Ray will be the only format. Sony needs to have a trade in your HD-DVD player for a Blu-Ray Player exchange party. This could happen all across the country show caseing what blu-ray has to offer and simply bring in your hd player and walk out with a Sony Blu-Ray Player. Definitly would be a kick in the ass to Paramount, Toshiba, and Microsoft! Or at least have a trade in the HD Player for 100 or more dollars off a Blu-ray Player of choice! That way Sony dosn't go so low to bribe movie companies to choose blu like umm cough HD-DVD (So sad only way to stay alive). Instead Sony will use that money to make consumers very happy! And everyone is a winner no one loses HD content and prices will fall. Toshiba loses the war like they should. And to make it sting Sony will let Toshiba produce Blu-Ray Players.

For the sort of money being talked about for Paramount and Warner, Sony could afford to buy every single Toshiba HD DVD player that rolls off the production line and crush the whole lot of them. Nobody would be able to buy an HD DVD player because they'd be permanently sold out, and Toshiba lose money on every one they sell.

It just occurred to me: Paramount releases STAR TREK in HD-DVD, then, in about 19 months, and after all the hard core Trekkies have bought all of the series and movies in HD-DVD, will then release them in BD, with different artwork, and maybe a bonus extra or two, and then rake in the money again, when all the Trekkers have bought them again!

When you look at that, you can see why Paramount did what they did. You may think I'm kidding, but I can see that happening.

Now that is a good idea. The players can be crushed at Monster Truck Rallies sponsored by SCEA.

Heh. That's what I thought Uni was doing all along.

When they switch over to the Blu side, I'd happily gobble up Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

I am planning to buy a share on Disney and Sony.
