What was the big news Josh was going to announce at 7:30? Did I miss it or was there no news?

WB VP, apparent HD DVD guy, stepped down from WB with no reason given.

Just caught up with the news (yes, my head is burried in the sand).

Paramount; what were you thinking??

Have just spent the last few hours on the net, and the informative posts here, going through the course of events. OK, I understand. $150 mil. Enough said on the why but this must be the best example of a company not listening to their customer base...ever!!

Had a nosey at the HD-DVD site and had to laugh. Besides getting stuck into us (Blu-ray), as one of their own posts says " This forum is a ghost town
I can hear the crickets..." Only the 1 member currently on line.

I am no rocket scientist but if I can see that Blu-ray is where the customers are why can't they.

Anyway, off shopping now (just after midday here in H.K) to buy up large on Paramount Blu-ray before they go. Funny thing will be that Paramounts sales will show more sales for Blu-ray titles this month than their HD-DVD ones will for months (and months) to come!

Default BDA Website is Terrible

Wow, I was checking the BDA website to see if there's any recent press activity.

Turns out, it doesn't look like it's been updated in quite a while...

Check out the Coming Soons:

http://www.blu-raydisc.com/products/...017/Index.html

Seems like if your goal is to market the best format, you'd at least keep your primary site updated.

Shouldn't we cut them some slack considering that they have probably been dealing with an onslaught of situations like Paramounts betrayal and ways to counter/prevent them from happening? Besides, I honestly believe that anyone looking up info on Blu-ray is more likely to go to a site that has reviews/forums/news all rolled into it. I'm pretty sure that site is designed more to keep the already hardcore enthusiasts abreast on the members and not to educate the unknowledgeable. Thos who are starting to look into Blu-ray probably don't even understand that there is a BDA!

Crank, Purple Rain, Out "of" Justice is listed as coming soon...

And, I agree, probably most don't care about BDA, but their domain name is www.blu-raydisc.com. That's pretty much the flagship domain name, except blu-ray.com.

Lady in the Water cover art? That might make me think hard about switching my BD exclusivity...

BDA is a marketing function; market for God's sakes.

Oh,wow, and I missed "Playback Straight-Up". Come on!

Default I'm staying 100%BLU

Having read much about the format war this week and seriously considered a HD-DVD player, I've come to the conclusion increasing my support for Blu-ray is the way to go.

You can't get away from the fact the vast majority of the industry are pro Blu-ray, those who aren't, strangely enough, have been paid off.

Well Paramount and Universal, I'll wait until you come crawling back in 12-18 months, because consumers are choosing Blu-ray in ever greater numbers, lets get this right, HD-DVD is effectively dead in every market other than the US.

Hollywoodinhidef.com is really where the consumers would rather go.

I don't know what to think anymore, this whole format war is just getting silly. It reminds me of the rumors I heard as a kid of Nintendo paying off stores to sell only their products, and not Atari or Sega. Sounds like that is what the HD-DVD camp is doing, what with paying off Paramount to drop Blu.
