It seems to me that Sony is great at creating new technology, but can rarely come up with a good strategy for mass adoption. Blu-ray is superior to HD-DVD in every way, but they aren't able to land a knock-out blow. Where is the marketing? Why aren't they subsidizing studio support? If they want to win this thing they need to rally the BDA, maybe take a few short-term hits to the pocketbook, and outmaneuver Microsoft.

I agree 100%, Ender.

Sony/BDA marketing is the true tragedy here today.

So HD-DVD does something to hurt you and you propose responding by helping HD-DVD out by stopping Blu-ray purchases. Very strange proposal. HD-DVD must be hoping for more "enemies" such as yourself.

Revision: I am not going to boycott the purchase of blu-ray titles, but I am holding off indefinately. What is the difference? Boycotting means "never again". Holding off means "eventually."
Nope, boycotting means simply abstaining from buying, which is exactly what you're proposing to do.

holy lord people. it isn't just sony for blu-ray. it is a conglomerate of companies acting together to create a product. it would be the BDA marketing, not sony that has failed.

Just sent my email:
Quote:
I am writing to you in regard to the recent decision by Paramount to exclusively support HD-DVD. While I understand the economics involved in this decision (no one can fault you for taking money), this decision has caused me to to reconsider supporting Paramount with my future purchases. I will certainly never purchase any future Paramount HD-DVD releases and am unlikely to support any future Paramount DVD releases. Upon returning to support Blu-Ray as you once did I will reconsider my position in supporting Paramount in my future purchases. Thank you for taking the time to read this email

Sincerely,

Matthew Rounds

Um, Sony has won more than it has lost. I'm not trying to be a fanboy here, I promise, but really, c'mon people. Everyone doesn't get to know what everyone else is doing and M$ is the king of dirty deals on stuff like this. (just ask Apple computer how that whole window's thing started)

This is sheer desperation. Nothing more, nothing less.

We understand you're peed off but don't cut off support of who didn't do an underhanded scummy deal. Throw your PC out the window and buy a Mac or something.

Default Were we played by Paramount

After giving todays events some thought I began to wonder if her were used by Paramount to strike a bigger and better deal with HD-DVD. Its ironic that this news comes shortly after previous reports from Paramount that it was going to improve or shift its focus to bluray. What that a ploy to improve a deal that was already in the works? Call me crazy but that would make the most business sense. If so....to hell with Paramount
