well put. Panasonic is doing some Panasonic HD promotion which includes higlighting their blu-ray products, Sony is attempting HDNA with their products including Blu-Ray and we have Disney on their nation wide tour. DISNEY!!!! That can hit the familes and educate people about what Blu-Ray has to offer. So we have our own guns but it is still to early to judge the effect of them.

It would seem that the BDA is making attempts.

If you perceive a format as higher quality, why lower your standards?

I was an early adopter of SACD because it brought incredible resolution to some of the music I loved. The rival format, DVD-A, turned it into a bitter format war with Sony on one side and Warner on the other. A few labels lined up with SACD, but largely thanks to downloadable music, neither format went very far. The result? I have a really great collection of SACDs that I enjoy often and I am glad I stuck to my guns and avoided DVD-A, even though several of the titles were amont my favorites.

In the same way, I'm not going to alter my buying habits, lower my standards and buy new hardware, just to support HD DVD. Even if some of my favorite films never see the light of day on Blu-ray, I am sticking with that format. Its capacity and capabilities make it the right choice.

At some point, the HD DVD camp will have to acknowledge Blu-ray is the superior format.

Cool It's all a matter of numbers

When a single Blu-Ray disc sells more than 1,000,000 copies in one week. Then we'll have SOMETHING. Even then it pales to the sales of DVD's. The profit margin is less and the popularity is still low. For every early adopter there are millions of folks who don't even own a HDTV. This is going to take time, there will be growing pains, there is nothing we can do about it.

true. there will be growing pains. anybody in war who expects it to be short and quick is sorley mistaken. its down dirty and ugly. but the eyes are on us. if we can get blu-ray to trounce hd-dvd that will show retailers to go blu- and with one format being super strong then the sidleiners can come off an into the blu- camp

From what I understand, Paramount can't release Spielberg films on HD-DUD yet and wasnlt he the Exec on Transformers, why is everyone worried. HD-DUD might not even see Transformers.

I think they're too arrogant to care about any boycotts. We're only a precious few voices to be really heard or really be considered to be a threat.

The news was upsetting at first, and as much as I want transformers, its not the end of the world. It will be available soon enough one way or another. I've plenty of movies, none of which are paramount.

In the deal that Paramount signed, Speilbergs movies are not included and wasn;t he the exec on Transformers, so inturn, doesn't he have a say on whether or not we see this on HD-DUD???????

i've got the red devil on the left shoulder and the blue angel on the right. they're both talking to me. i'm not going to be so quick to jump ship. i'm not in panic mode. i'm waiting til the year end to see what happens. Christmas is huge and will show a strong indication of what's to come. I really hope Paramount titles suffer in sales. It just boggles my mind. Transformers is one of my favorite movies ever. Is there any chance...at all...that this is a short-term exclusive deal??? It would be awesome if Blu-Ray countered by grabbing Universal (against all odds) or WB to go exclusive and leave Paramount to wither away. Now that would turn the world upside down. Ha. (thinking aloud. i know this has no bearing in reality)

That's what Microsoft would like for us to think. Send those emails folks. Don't go to see Paramount's movies. Put some pressure on Paramount.

NOT AT ALL! The directors are the ultimate deciding factor in the release. Executive Producing is simply a title that is involved with the production and advertising aspects of a film. They just stand back and observe in case the studio needs a voice to step in and defend their initial production investment. The finer details of the home version release is left entirely in the hands of the artist who's vision it is. TRANSFORMERS WILL GO HD-DVD EXCLUSIVE! And that pisses all of us off!!!

I agree!

Yes it is truly messed up that Paramount is degrading themselves! But you know what I say, fck em! fck em! They will in the end lose out on millions of dollars in profit.

One of the first things I thought when I read this was that my next computer will be a MAC. I have been thinking about it for a long time, but in favor of blu ray I decide to slit on microbuck's bill gates and buy a MAC.

Then I will take my Windows programs mash em up, cover them in my dogs feces, and FEDEX them overnight to Microsoft. I feel dirty even using the 'M' word.

Anyways, its my first post! so Hello to my fellow bluers!

DOWN WITH MICROSOFT!

But he is Steven Spielberg, you can;t tell me he has no pull or thoughts on it. I think it will come out on HD-DUD exclusive but you never know. Have faith in the Blu and it will be fine.

my suggestion would be go out to buy as many of their movies on blu ray as you can! So they can see what they will be missing out on! There is sadly no way we will hurt their pocket.

I hope Speilberg finds a loophole and takes Transformers elsewhere. Like SONY! (but I know that wont happen)

Default Blu-ray/Sony - I am there 'til the END!

I see A LOT of people bailing ship after the news. You all need to chill and think about the whole picture. Not just 1 very small slice of the pie. There are other companies/movies you can support. It is Paramounts loss.

I love Blu, I buy Blu and I am looking to buy even MORE BLU!~ I will not buy DVD unless its an educational (National Geographic Mega Structures) kinda thing. All others will be BLU!

So for all you people that are stopping, ditching or going neutral - your loosing out. Not us. You also are not helping either.

So, calm down - enjoy the great news and leave Paramount to wallow in their greed. Trust me - this has tarnished their company for the foreseeable future and it will NOT be forgotten.

GO BLU!

Default Appeal to Michael Bay to get Transformers on Blu-ray

Michael Bay has mentioned that Transformers is coming to both formats on his own website in the past so this Paramount news must come as a surprise to him. He is a big fan of HD so it might be worth trying to get his support behind Blu-ray. His film is the highest grossing live action film for Paramount and Dreamworks this year and the PS3 demographic is the ideal one for a release like Transformers.

You can join his blog/forum at http://www.shootfortheedit.com/forums/ His official website is www.michaelbay.com which also has a link to that forum.

Registering requires waiting for a 'live' person to activate you but I think it is important and well worth the wait. There is already a thread discussing this news and most people seem to be very pissed off at Paramount. Maybe the one two punch of Bay and Speilberg will keep this AAA title from being HD DVD exclusive this winter.
