Yes you are right and that's why it's more complex, it will take a lot of pressure from owners, to make them change their minds.

Could anyone recommend a 4K player that handles Dolby Vision and is modestly priced?

I’m picking up a Vizio p65 next week and need a player to go with it

LG UP970 :: great player :: we currently use it with our Vizio P-Series (2016 :: 65") and our LG OLED 55C7P

picture quality (SD/HD/UHD/Dolby Vision) is excellent; especially Dolby Vision

current pricing is $179 (Crutchfield/delivered/recommended)

Philips BDP7302 and Philips BDP7502 are the other two models that can play DV today you could consider.

Or invest in the best player overall and have it last longer... the Oppo 203.

Default Xbox One S/X & HDMI 2.1

Xbox One S & Xbox One X will be compatible with HDMI 2.1 VRR & HDMI 2.1 ALLM.
https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.ph...&id=1520831357
http://armdevices.net/2018/02/10/bet...-qms-qft-allm/

"Microsoft has announced that it will be bringing AMD’s FreeSync display support to the Xbox One S and the Xbox One X consoles. The new update will support FreeSync 2, which will allow Variable Refresh Rate with HDR enabled displays. Both consoles will support the standard over HDMI."
https://twitter.com/UHDRob/status/972923342503030784

"Xbox One will also begin supporting Auto Low Latency Mode on supported TVs later in 2018, including select models from Samsung."
https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2018/03/...ox-news-recap/

"At Samsung's First Look TV event ahead of CES 2018, a company executive told us that its 2018 range of QLED TVs will support VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) technology from the likes of G-Sync and Freesync, even though the underlying chipset is not full HDMI 2.1."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19g9peb_IXU#t=0s

Current well-designed TVs can also be upgraded to HDMI 2.1 VRR or to HDMI 2.1 Dynamic HDR, i.e. transmission of ST 2094-10 dynamic metadata of ST 2094 compliant Dolby Vision, ST 2094-20/30 dynamic metadata of Technicolor HDR or ST 2094-40 dynamic metadata of HDR10Plus across HDMI.

They can be also upgraded to HDMI 2.1 eARC, i.e. transmission of 3D audio (Dolby Atmos, …) from TV apps.

No Penton Man since March 8th. Does he usually go this long besides when he has recoveries or vacations?

do not concern yourself :: if you have been happy with your 2016 OLED, just continue to do so :: learning of issues that have not been a problem to you is counterproductive (to yourself) :: just enjoy your display

yes :: 2017 displays are improved, as are 2018 displays

i currently have a 2017 (no issues obvious to me) yet i am preparing to replace it with the 2018 as 'there are always improvements which i appreciate'

if you really wish to pursue learning more, just do searches (the issues are well-documented)

in closing, enjoy your display, i enjoy mine and you should simply continue to do so

Question Is DoVi greater than 15

In theory, yes, I think that would be fair to say.

Some believe their solution further upstream could have been even better in terms of image quality if they’d increased the 2nd italicized parameter (num_distribution_maxrgb_percentiles) to greater than 15, but alas, perhaps more processor intensive.
I am assuming that DoVi uses a “similar” method to generate its metadata. Does DoVi use a different parameter than HDR10+ (The maximum value of num_distribution_maxrgb_percentiles shall be 15.)?
