Yea, the first image has the grain and looks sharper, but the 4K looks like DNR has been applied. Look at the suits, they get smoothed out in the 4K image.

It looks grainier because of the increased contrast. I would debate 'sharper' and would certainly debate Sony, of all studios, using DNR.

...oh brother.
There's nothing about that image that suggests DNR. It now looks like actual film grain instead of some noisy distortion thereof.
To the fella that posted these: can you kindly post some more captures? I get that this one was chosen to illustrate the less blown out highlights, but it's not exactly a 4K showcase shot.

Here's hoping Bram Stroker's Dracula gets re-done as one of these labels.

The suits look so scrubbed compared to the original.

sutter - do all these releases have ALL the supplements that were on the prior releases? can you post pics of the backs?

I'd love to have a 4K remaster of Black Hawk Down with the 7.1 audio that's on the Danish import.

They don't even have menus, as far as I'm aware. I'll also assume that Total Recall is the shitty,(well, shittier), theatrical cut. No?

Don't mistake sharpness for detail.

The film was originally 5.1 so no fake 7.1 please.

I have several receiver modes that can fill the surround backs if wanted.

I'm not going to try to reread this thread, but I am wondering if these will work on a 1080p TV and wondering if there is a reason and would they look better on my 1080p TV?

They are still 1080p transfers. The only difference is they are taken from 4K masters this time.

yeah, I'm surprised that Sony isn't upsampling these discs to 96kHz audio as well.
