Morale of the story - sugar daddies in L.A. shouldn’t talk to their mistresses….just get down to business lickety-split whenever you’re together in private.

So anyway, at least here in the U.S., viewers didn’t get the pre-game soccer tactics talk leading up to the match, something of which I personally enjoy and thusly missed . Then I only watched up until about the 30 min. mark as by then it was clear to me that Real Madrid was in the final. Kind of wish it had been a more competitive match. I wonder if Pep’s on his way to coach at Manchester United now as Bayern was eviscerated.

Default Speculation That 4K Media Dead On Bad News From Sony

http://www.techradar.com/news/video/...-water-1246497

At least when it comes to a Sony backed Blu-ray format. Maybe someone else will step up.

I was at Pinewood Studios for a Sony 4K product event last week, where all questions about a 4K Blu-ray format were simply swatted away. "You'll need to ask the BDA" was the flat response. They really didn't want to talk about it, it was a bit uncomfortable.

Last night I watched Chelsea v. Atlético Madrid, excellent pre-game analysis and very entertaining match. Seems José has trouble with teams wearing red and white stripes these days.

Looking forward to seeing a good Champions League final. Talk about an inter-city rivalry on the BIG stage.

Let’s hope so, as I’d hate to see all the work currently being done in the back rooms on spec, to have all been in vain ….

Blu-ray Disc Evolution - DoStudio 4 - YouTube
Hmmm. So BD is still growing and physical media still dominates three quarters of the movie playback market worldwide, but the format itself hasn't been as profitable (I would think in terms of residuals etc) as Sony had hoped, and 4K BD sure ain't gonna get them out of their rut so the bastards might dump 4K BD altogether.

Wow, seems to be a bunch of Blu-ray ‘sky is falling’ postings in the tech forum today based upon speculation extending from Sony’s recent statement to shareholders.

Geoff, not to worry….adjusting shareholder expectations in terms of company performance is not as imminently frightening as some would make it out to be, unless of course you’re a shareholder or an investor. Blu-ray packaged media still has some beans left in the tank . I wouldn’t get overly concerned about it unless something like Sony were to sell Sony DADC due to lack of profitability due to decreased demand for physical media, were to happen, e.g. how many years have doomsayers been saying film is already dead and yet not until 2014 - http://www.hgpauction.com/auctions/6.../#!prettyPhoto

I do view the *physical media contracting news* today possibly somewhat disconcerting to independent replicators who may have read it and are already disproportionately burdened by contending with such things as paying royalties like to AACS LA (for copy protection used on Blu-ray discs); whereas, studios have cross-licensing agreements that allow them to push royalty fees down.

I think techradar has a good article there, but they’re also drawing some conclusions that I don’t completely agree with. As I’ve said before, bluray disc is the business of the BDA – if they don’t update the BD spec to include UHD/4K, then they will be out of business. I don’t see that happening. Why would they fashion their own noose by just doing nothing?

Techradar is also drawing the conclusion that a contracting physical media market means Sony will jump out of the BD format altogether. I don’t agree. Not yet anyway. Sony has invested much of its future on consumer 4K, and they will exploit all avenues -- including physical media. However, if their download server catches on then I agree the future of 4KBD grows dimmer.

It was pretty alarming Penton man. I just think the natives are getting restless. We need to know that a disc based 4k format is coming. The longer we go the more unsettling it becomes. I bet there were a lot of people who read that stuff and take it as gospel. Like me they have no knowledge of the ins and outs they just like tech and check out certain sites daily.

They drew a lot of conclusions, this is yet another one speculating as to 4K BD not coming to fruition….

“I was at Pinewood Studios for a Sony 4K product event last week, where all questions about a 4K Blu-ray format were simply swatted away. "You'll need to ask the BDA" was the flat response. They really didn't want to talk about it, it was a bit uncomfortable.”

Does the ‘uncomfortable’ blogger for TechRadar really think that at the same press event where Sony announced plans to release the new streaming device, FMP-X5 (http://www.techradar.com/us/news/tel...eaming-1244653) …..that any Sony rep was at all interested in undermining the importance of that announcement by talking about 4K Blu-ray packaged media?

Again, the blogger should have been at NAB 2014 and spoken to Rob from Sony Creative Software.

Keep in mind that because of the broad scope and complexity of the technology involved with all potential parameters of UHD, the longer ‘the wait’ is, the more chance there will be for packaged media enthusiasts to receive a greater upgrade in 4K BD spec, as compared to that for traditional (HD) Blu-ray.

Although Fox’s Home Entertainment President is underestimating the disc capacity of 4K BD, there are also other BDA members advocating his “digital bridge” proposal…http://www.engadget.com/2014/01/09/l...-fox-home-ent/ in order to help further encourage folks to buy into 4K BD….which is something else which has to be worked out.

As far as some ‘natives’ go, Deci started that thread back in 2007 with the line…”Oh noes the sky is falling! - or how I stopped worrying and learned to love the red bomb…..meaning HD DVD (overtly favored and promoted by other consumer forums (AVS, etc. on the internet). About time the opening line be updated to “or how I stopped worrying and learned to love streaming”.

Point being, some people will always find something to worry about…and others enjoy being provocateurs in fueling their anxieties.

My advice

Finally we have found our usual northern spirit. It has been lacking for long stretches of the season but we have our heart back now. I can't believe it Penton man. Surely one of the greatest escapes in the history of the Premier league barring an unlikely collapse from now on. If Chelsea win tomorrow our safety is 100% confirmed.

Typical! Palace do what they've never done (stay up in the EPL) with time to spare, and your lot upstage them with a great escape of epic proportions. Still, at least Pulis got manager of the month.

And seriously, well done Sunderland.
