While I know this thread is referring to 4K film transfers, I still think it warrants including any film with a true 4K master. So that would include any films shot and mastered in 4K. You could always put an asterik for films captured in 4K. Have all films actually shot in 4K been mastered in 4K as well?

I wish Warner would go ahead and due a proper 8K restoration/master since 2001 is a 70mm film.

From Roger Deakins himself "On 'In Time' we were recording an uncompressed HD file but we still made a 4K master, rather than a 2K master, because all our tests looked so much better that way. From what I have seen it is even more important to finish in 4K if you want to retain all the detail that the camera is capable of capturing."
Anyway i will take In time off the list since it's digitally shot. |

btw, it's not confirmed that JP3D actually has a 4K master, to my knowledge anyway. It might be like Top Gun, where they scan the film at higher resolution but do the actual 3D conversion in 2K. Many 2K masters start their life as 4K scans, I think it's pretty standard procedure to oversample at high-end DI houses.

Agreed. I watched 2001 several months ago and it most certainly needs a new scan as the current disc shows some filtering and edge enhancement and surely lack of detail compared to a new 4K+ scan - I'm sure at some point it will happen as Warner is said to be visiting some of their earlier titles.

Jarhead http://www.theasc.com/magazine/nov05/jarhead/page2.html
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford http://investors.autodesk.com/phoeni...385&highlight= Particularly this bit of info: -- Best Cinematography: EFILM used its EWORKS proprietary color grading system, which includes Autodesk Lustre and Autodesk Incinerator, for the digital color grades of No Country for Old Men and fellow nominee, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Digital intermediates for both films were realized at 4K resolution. Django Unchained: http://motion.kodak.com/motion/Publi...i_Westerns.htm Hopefully this will convince you ![]() |
