I’ve changed all local dimming settings to high, and will live with it a while to see if that issue jumps out at me anymore.

I’ve read another owner elsewhere state they thought the latest firmware made the light bleed issue better but I believe THAT is genuine placebo. They may just be watching content which doesn’t cause the major flash lighting issue to rear an ugly head… but it still does. Also, I’m fairly certain that part of the reason why the light bleeds as much as it does is because of the optical layer over the panel causing the light to scatter.
Awesome stand. Did you get it from Walmart? If you check out my home theatre you will see I have the same one. I have my set mounted to the stand though.

It was from walmart! My old TV was mounted but I felt like keeping this one planted on the stand for some reason.

I didn't have much empirical testing with the Z9F to see much clipping, I did use some 4,000 nit content (mad max), but didn't notice much clipping. Seemed to have some pretty good top end highlight detail IMO. Even if it does clip above a certain threshold, I would say that is probably the least of the worries for Z9F. The low end is where the unit falls apart.

The irony is how the Z9D was slammed at the 2017 shootout compared to the 2017 OLEDs, and the Z9F, which is definitively worse than the Z9D in most ways, is seen so favorably against the the 2018 OLEDs - Which are improved over last year's models.

To each his own as far as satisfaction of the unit is concerned... But I cannot in good faith recommend the Z9F after having exposure to its competitors and (what's most shocking) its predecessor. BUying Z9F reminds me of those that bought HD-DVD. Sure there's plenty of customer satisfaction to be had, but it's ultimately the wrong buying decision.

True. I called yesterday to the dispatch to tell them they might want to delay a day but they were already in Charlotte. That was at 4pm yesterday

I don't get that, I really don't. I can only think that the room wasn't packed with as many OLED worshippers as it was the year before, and I've said as much when talking previously how little attention I actually pay to these things (I have yet, and are not likely to, view any of the shootout videos or sully myself by actually visiting HDD). I will never deny the benefits that OLED brings to the table (hence it being the tech of choice for many if not most pro colourists, not just for the Sony BVM mastering monitor but the client monitors also), but what I aks from any such shootout is objectivity, plain and simple.

Can't really say for sure. I do remember seeing lots of "dark scene" hdr photos using netflix's meridian scene from last year's shootout with people laughing at the Z9D's tremendous blooming... Which begs the question of what the response would be if Z9F was put in the same scenario, as we already can guess the result (Z9F would look leagues worse).

This year HDR wasn't tested in such a scenario, only SDR. HDR was tested using high APL bright scenes, which not only would presumably be more favorable to LCDs (esp those with fewer zones), but really wouldn't test the limit of what what HDR is really all about anyways. That is to say, intraframe contrast.

Now don't get me wrong I'm certainly not putting a tinfoil hat on here, but based on the shootout scoring, one would expect the Z9F to be performing much closer to the OLEDs than it actually does. It's not even close.

Of cource from the ShootOut the Z9F had lot of good scenes as well. But I feel experienced AV, HT Enthuiasts will see scenes such as that ShootOut's Horrific paused one just too often. Experienced AV HT peoples just have the eye for it.

Its really a shame that like 50-70% of the movie's video Details could be lost in a scene, disappeared IMO. We are talking main body of the screen not Cinema Bars.

well looking at and judging the scene at 5:56 mark, the Z9 looks better than the Q9. You lose a lot more with the Q9. But they're LED's with higher brightness than OLED, so they're going to look like that on camera. Plus its in a dark room. Heck, if you look at the Reference model, it looks like the Z9. Yes, you can see grey bars on the Z9, but I also see it on the Q9.

But I bet yeah, if that was the Z9D where the F is, and as bright as it gets you'd be bashing the D

Tommy. That Pan scene paused image at the ShootOut occured appx at the Pan movies 18 minute 50 sec.

Im watching that scene now on my Z9D. I'll post photo captures later. What I see is very close to same scene on my LG G2 Signature OLED(winner of Robert Zohn's pass shootout). Z9D I think is brighter but have the details.

Esentially details shown on my G6 is similar to my Z9D. Both of which don't represent what expert judges said from the Z9F of that scene.

What interesting is Pan movie point 18 minutes 51, 52 sec. Now that scene is even more Bright Intense for the Pan Bright Sun rays is very very bright. Details on my Z9D of that scene is Spectacular. Tons of details. Great specular hightlights maintained.

My Z9D settings are, Let me get for you:
pending

Vivid
Brightness Max
Contrast Max
Gamma 0
Black level 50
Black Adjust High
Adv Contrast Enhance High
Auto local dimming High
Xtend Dynamic Range Medium

Color 60
Live Color high

I think these are mostly default settings.
Have'nt had time to maximize PQ settings on my new Z9D

Photos pending.

As long as it's on topic there shouldn't be an issue. The video above, is 100% on topic.

It’s fine if on topic but all he does is post videos and continues to post the shootout video over and over and over and then bashes the tv over and over is the problem. He does not own nor will he ever own this tv so what is the point ? But to try and be a fanboy for Oled no tv is perfect but it’s trolling going in a thread and bash it and just use videos to try and prove it .
