Makes me wonder if they've switched out the VA panel for an IPS. The latter has much better viewing angles but much poorer blacks, however direct LED backlighting is said to overcome the latter problem. IPS should have a faster panel response as well, this is a particular issue on the 65" ZD9 (black smearing when starting up from cold is a regular occurrence on mine in the winter months) but is mollified the further up in size the ZD9 goes due to different makes of panel being used, albeit still VA AFAIK.

Yep, if I were to get one (not that I've thought about it or anything) then those fugly legs will need a new TV stand. But am I thinking of Sony when I recall that a recent TV with a similarly stupid design also allowed for the legs to be installed pointing inwards? That might work (not that I've thought about it or anything).

I'm really not thinking about it or anything. Might have to live on bread and water for the next few months...

I asked Archer about the IPS theory and he said confirmed not ips.

The best design I've used is the screen sitting on the ht stand. No air gap underneath and nothing but screen showing is lovely.

Information by imagic on the Z9F

" Yeah side by side. Very massive improvement in preserving color, contrast, hue. Performs like an IPS panel when it comes to off angle, looks like VA when it comes to contrast. "

" This is a huge deal. So long "hope I get a good panel
Sony says each Z9F panel will be factory calibrated for uniformity, which evidently is a process that can only be done in the factory. "

That's nice. My 940E was an excellent panel uniformity wise, and my A8F is the best OLED panel I've ever seen, it literally has no lines or jailbars. Sony must be catching on.

Yeah, like how the Z9D was followed by the XE93/930E, I'm hoping we'll see an XG93/930G that carries over some of the good stuff from the Z9F next year. That could be the TV for me... potentially.

Indeed, you're thinking of the XF90/900F, which does indeed have those legs and yes, they can be swapped, so you get them pointing inwards for a smaller footprint. The legs seem to be the "look" Sony are going for in 2018; everything from the lower-end sets to this beast have them.

Now, human trafficking isn't especially legal, but any friends or relatives you could sell off?

John now says he's not as confident as he was earlier.

Robert, any confirmation of ips/VA panel for both the 65 and 75 Z9F?

Hmmm. I've got a couple of very cute cats.

As for the ZF9 being calibrated for uniformity at the factory, that ends any possibility of this coming out at or below the ZD9's price. If the 65" is less than four grand in the UK I'll be amazed.

@ray, Sony won't say, but I'd guess VA, but with surprisingly good off axis video performance.

One more observation when I went into the private rooms. The ambiant light was very low and the Sony demonstrator hit the reset to factory defaults in the custom mode. The color fadility was dead on to the BMX300 OLED reference monitor as was the HDR tonal range and speculate highlights, but the cinemascope bars were dark gray, not black and the illuminated slightly when a bright object was near the bars.

Hmm. We're the bars blacker before the reset?

When I entered the room it was the 1st thing I asked them to do so I did not see the image before the reset.

Thats the pathetic thing about it.
It's an our favourite shoot out, not a best tv shoot out
