From Crutchfield.com for 75 inch Z9D:

Quote:
HDR (High Dynamic Range): HDR (High Dynamic Range) reproduces a greater dynamic range of luminosity or brightness levels, bringing greater contrast & wider color spectrum to the screen. This increased contrast reveals the subtle nuances of the image, from detailed blacks and shadows to the brightest whites and colors, plus greater depth. Previously hidden areas of dark shadow and sunlight are now full of clarity and detail. HDR is only supported on the TV HDMI 2 & 3 inputs. The Sony TV supports three HDR formats - including HDR10 which is the most widely used format and is installed from the factory, HLG (Hybrid-Log Gamma) which is designed for over-the-air broadcast and requires a firmware update that is currently available, and Dolby Vision which is a dynamic HDR format that requires a firmware update that is currently available.

My wife has a Nissan Rogue and I sort of doubt the box will fit. When I picked up my 55" Vizio a couple of years ago, it seems to be a semi snug fit and I had to lay it down. It's not recommended to have a television lay down for transport, and since the television is $3500, I'm not going to risk cramming it into the back of that SUV. I've certainly thought about trying to see if it would fit, though.

And in either event, the 27th is a good date for me because the television is going into the man cave. On the 26th, I'm having a new furnace for the home installed. The furnace will go into a separate storage area that's closed off in the basement, but they'll have to remove some panels in the drop ceiling right near my viewing area in order to install some piping/tubing that will act as the vent that pulls air in from outside. I don't want anything to smack into my brand new television by accident that day. I could move the television for a day, but they'll be trekking through the length of the man cave because access to the storage area is to the rear, so I don't want it in their path at all. I also don't want to move the television upstairs because I've got two kids, and one is only a year and a half old and if someone forgets to shut a door and the kid gets into the same room where I'm storing the tv... forget it.

The wait is pure agony when I know it's sitting just miles away, but I'm much more comfortable with receiving the TV after that furnace gets done.

I wonder how Magnolia delivery is going to feel when I hand them some rubber gloves to wear when they're lifting the TV? lol

It's always been there too, I haven't just started noticing it as the opening scene to Power Rangers (a notorious grey bar scene) was one of the first things I checked in DV on the ZD9. But it's only as I've started to watch more and more DV content that it's really begun to niggle at me.
Btw I've been wanting to ask you Geoff, what contrast setting do you think is needed for DV on the Z? Is it the same as HDR10 or have you set it differently?

When watching DV content on the ATV4K, it seemed a little dim to me with contrast set to 86, so I bumped it up a little to 94. Not sure if it's the Apple causing it though. Haven't bothered watching any DV discs yet.

I don't set it to the same as what I use for HDR10. I decided upon 91 for DV contrast, still pumping out plenty of brightness but not clipping highlights, not that I can discern anyway.

Well, Crutchfield don't know everything. Sony's own documentation says that only 2 and 3 are for HDR but I always figured it was nonsense because HDR is a tiny packet of metadata, it doesn't need full bandwidth to work. Sure enough, HDR works fine on HDMIs 1 and 4 within certain bandwidth limitations. Even 4K60 HDR is accepted @ 8-bit 4:2:0 because this is within the 300MHz limit of older HDMI silicon.

4K24 HDR running on HDMI 1

4K60 HDR running on HDMI 4

On Sony TVs HDMI 1 and 4 can't do 2160p 10/12 bit (required for HDR) with 50 or 60 fps signals (TV signals)

UHD Blu-ray are mastered @24 fps so any HDMI port will work

You think John Archer knows what he's talking about but Vincent Teoh is clueless?

Surely you are trolling.

This was to be expected. I hope for 75Z9F owners theirs will be better regarding black levels and local dimming...

Teoh and Archer community quite a bit. Teoh will also note the horrible blacks on the Z9F. Also remember that after Teoh seen the Z9F at the launch event, he warned people to keep expectations in check because he seen the horrible blacks as well.

Sounds to me like the 75" will be "good enough" with its blacks but the 65" will basically be a Z900F.

I don't mind John Archer. But one is a pro calibrator and an actual expert on the subject matter, and one is a journalist.

I just find it funny that this poster trashes Vincent, but somehow thinks a journalist is more knowledgeable.

Yeah I'm sorry - I don't care what anyone's "professional" opinions or judgements are - anyone that says this is anywhere close to OLED is just straight up biased loaded BS.

For years people were quick to label any tv that looked like that trash, with blooming so bad into the letterbox bars and now it's just written off and brushed aside because it's called a "Z" series manufactured by the Sony brand? That letterbox blooming is straight up embarrassing for a flagship in 2018.

You know they work together right?
And a journalist would not show bias, and a youtuber can and will....
Also Vincent is crude and run by the sponsorship and the viewers paying him to set up their tv's.
One has degrees the other sets up tv's.

I see a lot of opinions and bias in this post, but I noticed that you have no rebuttal to the factual claim that Vincent's level of knowledge on the subject matter is vastly superior.
