Are you serious the World Cup means everything to me that gave great memories as a kid from 86 World Cup when i was 6 years old where my brother and i went crazy what Maradona did in the tournament and to the English.
I don't have any memories from the 82 World Cup in Spain too young but the rest like Italia 90 which was our first World Cup which we Qualified for [ Republic of Ireland ] and to get to the quarter final was a good achievement for us.
But for the rest USA 94, FRANCE 98, JAPAN and SOUTH.KOREA 2002, GERMANY 2006, SOUTH AFRICA 2010, BRAZIL 2014,just great memories and stories don't take this the wrong way Penton but the World Cup means a lot more to us Europeans than it does for the Americans.
I did past World Cup and Euros threads on this forum in the past but i won't be doing a World Cup 2018 thread that's why you don't see anything about World Cup talk on here but if someone is going to do a thread for it i be happy to support it.

My earliest World Cup memories were from 1978 when Argentina hosted it. I would have been 12 years old by this time, and the 1982 and 1986 tournaments in Spain and Mexico respectively, I think I watched every match that was televised - including the non-England matches.

The years afterwards, I was only really watching the England games and the countries that were favourites to win, for example, Italy, Germany, Spain, Brazil, etc. Great memories over the years.

I was also 6 at the time but I don't remember Mexico '86 at all, however Italia '90 is seared into my memory and it remains my favourite World Cup to this day. Just hearing Nessun Dorma gives me chills. USA '94 was awesome though, from Diana Ross missing the "goal" in the opening ceremony to Jackie Charlton arguing with the jobsworth official to Ray Houghton putting the Italians to the sword. And for all the complaints back then about giving it to the USA, it remains the best attended World Cup in terms of average gate figures (well, that's what my Daily Mail World Cup Wallchart™ sez). I'd love to see a pan-American World Cup happen again soon, as the way that the game has exploded in North America over the last 10 years would guarantee one hell of a show.

So yeah, I'm definitely excited for the World Cup this year but as an England fan I like to get the disappointment out of the way early doors, hence the lack of enthusiasm from me in this here thread thus far.

Well, I was just wondering because I hadn’t seen much conversation here happening as a lead-up to the tournament. No Tob, not to worry, I ‘don’t take it the wrong way’ for indeed, I don’t think I’m your typical American as I even watched the England v. Nigeria friendly. And if I said this (last phrase - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t#post15140258 )
in front of a lot of MLS Soccer fans, well, that would be considered blasphemy.

So bottom line, notwithstanding taking summer holiday time away from screens for some of us, are we discussing of thoughts about World Cup action in this thread for the upcoming few weeks? I like hearing you guys talk because it offers me a different perspective from what I see and hear here in the states.

Voted thusly.
Yeah, you could say it left me with a lasting impression of the sport in a country at the time was ruled by American football and a tiny, tiny % of folks here were even aware of what 'total football' meant.

As a Englishman that’s unthinkable to me. You see the beauty in the game and I feel many millions more (in the U.S) are just like you. Thankfully exposure is improving.

It’s also important that we keep you in the loop as I imagine it’s difficult to stay on top of everything when you are from another country? Not in terms of scores on a match day (spoilers) but just the general every day occurrences and various ins and outs.

These days not really too bad as to TV coverage. I can get all the World Cup matches and when they start up again, the Prem, la liga, Serie A, and even Bundesliga matches.

Largest obstacle to being as well informed as you guys I think is that the quality of our analysts for World Cup matches I feel is either a bit poor and/or biased.....which especially reveals itself when watching for instance the past world cup qualifiers for the US men's national team.

This one in particular I'm looking forward to - a Basque manager vs a Catalan manager. Should be a good game.
