everything I've seen on it so far says 4K blu-ray player.

http://www.digitaltrends.com/home-th...-4k-tv-lineup/

Digital Trends says it's a 4K BD player too. The model number would also seem to indicate this.

edited earlier post becuase I see it's the same pic Geoff posted. I'm so far behind.

The small eject button next to the power button would make me think it could be a disc player, seems a bit silly to have one on a media player.

Our friend over at Value Electronics is taking preorders on it, and has a different picture which shows what appears to be a fold-down front

When you open that image on 4K.com article, it has the name of the image and it's philipsuhd880-1l.jpg Searching Google reveals that is their 4K Media Player.

shame on 4K.com for using the wrong picture

but the article itself seems to be legit.

I'm wondering if Philips even have an actual player built yet, if they did you'd think there would be more images. That's probably why 4k.com used one of the media player, seeing as how they look similar. lol

I think 4k.com just screwed up.

OK, so the tray door is about 5 1/2" wide on the Philips UHD BR player which would make the unit about 7 to 8" wide. I wonder how stable that would be when the drive spins up?

I suppose that depends on what it's made out of.

For $400 it had better be an aluminum brick.

In a post today, Robert Zohn said he will have the tech specs on Monday the 11th. He also said he was impressed with the build quality.

Where'd these pics come from? Can we get closeups of the back so we can read the audio and video specs?

Default 4K Blu-ray Confirmed, Coming in Late 2015

FoxConnect's website says their 4K combo comes with a 3D disc. I think they duplicated the 3D combo details and forgot to edit it.

I emailed them and said I think their website may have an error and to verify what's included in the UHD combo pack. They replied saying it did include the 3D disc.

I'm certain they simply looked at their own site and did zero critical thinking and sent off the email. I emailed them back repeating myself. We'll see what happens.

Beast of both worlds if it does and the 3d disc plays in 2d also

Agreed. 100%. I love 3D.

Trouble is, with flicks like DOFP and The Wolverine the alternate cuts aren't in 3D so I haven't wanted to rewatch the 3D Theatrical edition. If I have a 4K setup, not sure I'd pop in 3D.

I have no idea why 4K 3D HDR 60FPS wasn't part of the standard. Too many whiners I suppose.

It'll be worse if my eventual 4K projector doesn't support 3D...all those discs.

It's never been unavailable and is still available so I'm guessing no. I never understood the argument with that one. The BD is far closer to how it was made and shot than the DVD was even if, perversely, it meant the picture quality was worse, and obviously the soundtrack was a lot better on blu.

Curious why the San Andreas disc has the DTS-MA logo, since even the standard Blu-ray is Dolby Atmos.

Does the absence of mention of DVD-A and SACD in the MT8581's specs mean that SoC doesn't handle those formats?

Just wanna make sure I understand: If a combo pack includes UHD, 1080 2D BD and 3D BD, what difference would it make whether the 3D disc plays in 2D also--you can just play the native 2D BD.

If you look closely, you can see the Dolby Atmos logo as well. The disc just includes both Atmos and DTS-HD MA audio tracks.
