Not surprised as HDR10+ is essentially useless.

I was looking at the specs of the new Canon R5 and noticed that it supports "HDR-PQ" instead of HLG. Hopefully it can output HDR10 files directly out of the camera without processing.

As an independent observer, what I didn’t understand was why Vincent, which seems to be the crux of his assertion, avoided answering this question in the comments –

“Hi Vincent, I am wondering if your analysis (and the Panasonic source you have the Metadata from) is correct. If the B component goes up to 100% in you waveform, it does NOT mean that the resulting luminance is 9000 Nits! I think that the Nit scale is only valid for Y Waveform. The luminance is always the combination of R G and B, whereas B only affect Y with a small factor (see RGB => YCbCr formulas)... as far as I understand, the MaxFall + MaxCLL are always refering to the luminance - not to individual RGB components.

Please correct me if I‘m wrong...”

And on the other hand, Vincent felt compelled to get into a debate over the LG C9 and engage in other nonsensical questions/comments by other contributors on that link

I do believe that Kris Deering has mentioned it several times that the MaxCLL analysis on discs is not a summation and relates to the brightest single pixel in the image, which can indeed be a stray R, G or B pixel?

From looking at the comments him and Boris do get extraordinarily sarky whenever people challenge them though. I thought it was just me he was being cranky with in the great Fake Mando debate

I mean, I know full well that I adopt that exact same kind of dismissive tone on here whenever someone is demonstrably wrong but 100% convinced of their argument - c'est la vie - but that's 'cause I'm a faceless loony on a forum, it's what forums are meant for. Doing it on a more mainstream public platform like that seems a bit vulgar, when in the videos themselves Vincent seems like such a mild-mannered (if filthy-minded ) guy. It's like they feel they have to fight fire with fire? Dunno.

I mean, comparing a Plasma TV from 2008 to the C9 on the basis of "colour doesn't look correct" is unproductive on the face of it. Why Vincent and Adam would bother responding, let alone in a condescending manner, is beyond me though. They get hundreds of such comments regularly.

WarnerMedia is “rethinking our theatrical model” in light of COVID-19, AT&T COO John Stankey said on the telecom and media giant’s first-quarter earnings call.

Stankey didn’t elaborate much on that sentiment, and neither did the executive offer any overtures of condolence to theater owners. Even though top exhibition circuits like AMC and Cinemark are hoping to reopen by the beginning of July — with Cinemark CEO Mark Zoradi last week citing Warner Bros.’ Tenet as a key comeback title — Stankey said he is not overly optimistic. “Don’t expect that’s going to be a snap-back” recovery, he said. “I think that’s going to be something that we’re going to have to watch, the formation of consumer confidence, not just about going to movies, just in general about being back out in public.”

Studios have wanted to part ways with cinema chain distribution and get direct injections of money from customers for a while now. They don't care how they get the money as long as they do.



This probably means more direct to streaming through their own streaming services. That could spell trouble for Amazon and Netflix as studios start pulling content for exclusive release on their new platforms.



The whole model for consumers will be upended.
