One of the prevailing themes in Anderson's works is that of the father figure, and a primary focus of the Pinocchio story is the relationship between Geppetto and Pinocchio. In the Disney version, Geppetto goes on a journey to rescue his son, who is all he has in the world.
So I can see why someone like PTA would be drawn to a Pinocchio film. Or maybe it is as simple as wanting to work with RDJr., who has been attached to this Pinocchio movie for a while. Honestly, I wish Disney were doing a live action Pinocchio as it's among my favorite Disney films, but a PTA/RDJr Pinocchio film - potentially darker than it would be at Disney, though still PG-13 most likely - is very intriguing. |

I bet Geppetto will have been abusing Pinocchio ever since he came to life in this version or something similar.

Isn't Burton already fairly busy with Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, the live-action Dumbo film and the rumoured Beetlejuice sequel? I'm having a hard time seeing him squeezing this into that already packed schedule...

I don't like all of his films, but one thing he's never made is a mediocre film.
