It's an excerpt from the book Full Spectrum by Adam Rogers. I'm sharing because it details Pixar's custom Dolby Cinema projector. Apparently it's a 10ft screen putting out 1000 nits.

It's the first I've heard of this. Man, what I'd give to watch something on that screen...
And toning out the deep dive into retinal afterimages by either Dominic in the ^ Wired article or Professor Stockman in the Ted talk, as home theater TV guys, you’s guys have no interest in seeing this display mentioned by the author of the article? -
“You can't buy these colors for your house. But Pixar does have a prototype of what that TV might be like. It's in a room next to the screening room.”

Something at Pixar on the order of the 10K BMD ?

from case study on Tom and Jerry at Filmlighthttps://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t#post18835634
“The colour pipeline for the theatrical grade was ACES AP0 - ACEScct (grading space) - Show LMT -> P3D65. ACES 1.1 was used for the P3D65 ODT.
HDR grading started immediately after the theatrical was locked. We had a tight turnaround since the picture would be available simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max. Since the animated characters bypassed the show LMT, their values, especially in the eye whites, were very high for HDR. Again, being able to solo the characters was a huge help for this pass.”

since then ^, ACES progress note:

Not really happy/impressed with HDR10 on my LG CX.

It seems like I can only get HDR10 to pop and resolve highlights by turning on dynamic tone mapping, but everyone says to turn it off for accuracy, but then the image tends to be too dark and some highlights are blown out. I use Cinema HDR preset with just a few tweaks.

My PS5 doesn’t support Dolby Vision, so don’t know how that looks, but generally I prefer SDR since the image tends to be brighter.

Scottish, wuz up with the weather on your island? Yesterday, I watched the Man City v PSG match and the pitch was so filled with snow and ice, in May!, that even if it was produced in HDR with 200 nits diffuse white - https://daejeonchronicles.com/2021/0...ference-white/, I wouldn’t have been able to follow the ball.

As small as this island might seem to a Yank such as yourself, the weather is highly variable

My parents stay 20 miles West and, the weather can be radically different here than in Edinburgh.

I guess the answer you are looking for was it snowing here? Nope, rain mostly.

Happy Birthday today to our 6 centenarians, all reaching the seasoned age of 116

Ingemar, I hope this ^ is not a glitch in the new OS, as I think we can learn a thing or two from all these old timers.

P.S.
Note to Lee Stewart, you must feel like a young whipper snapper as compared to these birthday boys.

In the spirit of attaining Continuing Education Units (CEUs) - https://www.ieee.org/education/conti...education.html

Test Question #1
Is this hardware –

A. The instrumentation a gastroenterologist uses to do your colonoscopy in a G.I. lab, e.g. - https://www.ucihealth.org/campaigns/...kaAunLEALw_wcB <- scroll down for live demonstration
B. In a world non-existent to streaming platforms nor logical business decisions, a super duper premium monster cable used to connect the fantasized 8K Blu-ray players to a microLED tv.
C. A 9ft. cable used to tether the image block to a Venice camera
D. What your local plumber uses to inspect your clogged plumbing at a fee exceeding that of a coloscopy when one has medical insurance.
E. None of the above

Penton , it has been relatively quite quiet in here recently; we need some new HDR action movie with a bang!

as to more content, dates scuffled around (repeatedly ) due to the global pandemic and albeit incomplete, here’s a tech list - https://professional.dolby.com/cinem...cal-releases/3

now composing multiple choice Question #2, so far I have written - “although this pic which, looking out would not be clipped with HDR capture and display, e.g. - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post11227127
unless the filmmaker chose to for creative intent,”

rest to come later, searching for a cat answer as a possible choice to put a smile on Geoff D’s face

P.S. This news is interesting in the sense of Netflix and theatrical release - https://www.boxofficepro.com/cinemar...y-of-the-dead/

Kris, are you still on for May? I’m hearing they’re now talking Q3 for first units to ship out.

The Reavons, no doubt.

Although I’m more curious about the Tascam unit, as their pro gear and consumer Teac gear are top-notch way back to my college days.
