I reckon whomever designed the lightning bug knew what they were doing.

Yo, Adam, do you know what colormap images these are of? Actually, quite important in determining what you do -

Yeah I do, this is a set of corneal topography readings of a left from a shack-Hartman sensor based wavefront abberrometer device.
Am I being tested?

corneal topography of the left eye would do ,
whether they like it or not, I test everybody…. on forums – members in general (as examples - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...a#post17404180 , https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post14626263 ) insiders (e.g. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...r#post15566766 ) moderators and owners

Wow are they late to the party

HDR is a mess, and porn isn’t going to save us this time - Digital Trends 6/21/20

Quote:
The less appealing answer is to push the production community to adopt a single HDR format as the standard. Which format should that be? If it’s HDR10 or HLG, creators and movie fans will both see red at being denied the higher quality associated with Dolby Vision or HDR10+.

If it’s Dolby Vision, HDR10, or HDR10+ the content will be incompatible with the new broadcast standard, HLG.

from JZ ( https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...z#post15741611 )

more discussion, including @ ~ 8:50, a Rec 2020 secret revealed here -

along with other topics like -
sending the highest possible resolution (sometimes even 8K) to VFX vendors @ 36:10,
the higher resolution of the Alexa LF helped with the dynamic range of the imaging, first @ 49:20,
a lot of references throughout the conversation from beginning to end with regards to Lawrence of Arabia

color scientist thinking a bit too complex for aspiring young-ins thinking about careers in the business?, no problemo, something a bit more managerial and of value too – https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/role-...oKZrFoHw%3D%3D

with all that huffing and puffing while ‘in action’ during corona pandemic times, I hope the actors are considering the use of masks

The article is also pretty sloppy with several factual errors.

Holy moly, they don't have a clue do they? So much FUD it's ridiculous. DV and HDR10+ on disc are intentionally backwards compatible with HDR10 devices, matey there clearly having no idea that the PQ EOTF is at the core of all three, and the whole point of streaming is that they squirt whatever version to the device is suggested by the EDID or whatever, I've never heard of a "Dolby Vision only" stream that didn't have an HDR10 or PQ10 fallback. So what if it means the streamers have to keep a lot of versions on standby? They do the same thing with audio which the author mentions in the same breath as HDR and yet doesn't regard that as a "mess".

As for Technicolour's version, who gives a flying ****? It may have been the one size fits all dream that the author was hoping for but no-one uses it, and as we've seen with HLG's rollout by Sky in the UK for downloads it's not so easy to just provide one signal that fits all sources, even if that's what it was supposed to do. And there are various LUTs out there that are designed to convert HLG to PQ and vice versa, even my Panasonic UHD player has an HLG to PQ conversion mode.

It's worrying, but not surprising, they have a guy writing about HDR that's worse than me at explaining technology stuff.

BBC Radio, eh? Look out, we're dealing with an expert here. He also appears to be one of the many commentators who believe that the sun shines out of Dolby's arse and that everything else is grossly inferior. Um...nope.

I kind of expect more from English blokes when they say they are into something. A culture of eccentricity, your garden shed dads.

Case and point. Geoff.

I haven’t been tracking it due to the changes with regards to the pandemic and also contributing more to AVS. To the best of my knowledge, ever since around early/mid May - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post17606214

viewership has dropped off a cliff from about 8-10,000 to something like ~ 1-2,000 views/day. Meanwhile, take the time to listen to the podcast with JZ and the Deakins, skipping thru the deep dive into LUTs and ACES if needed, as there are some good pearls in there applicable to picture quality from an acknowledged crème de la crème.
