For the most part I am sitting this one (HDR) out. I did believe that more studios would have committed to Dolby Vision after the Sony announcement but I guess there is too much back stage maneuvering .

For the time being Dolby Atmos/DTS:X is occupying my time. Have every thing in place for 7.2.4 except have not settled on a audio processor. At this time the Yamaha CX-A5100 is at the top of my list.

Well when you put it that ^ way, personally, I find that a bit scary given that this “section” blasted through the 1 million viewership mark in close to record time. Not to mention Club Penton (https://forum.blu-ray.com/forumdisplay.php?f=61) has now clocked in at over the 4 million viewership mark. I guess there’s no accounting for taste amongst gold prospectors.

Anyway, your gravel/gold analogy with J.W. suggests you’re a thinkin man….at least to a degree, so keep those contributions coming!

P.S.
Come to think of it, I can work with that ‘gold’ thing, one moment while I produce a more valued item.

True Gold from 1846…. I thinking ‘bouts 2 years prior to the beginning of the o-fficial start of the California gold rush -

Sadly however, I don’t think you’ll ever appreciate the significance of this natural law and how it applies to what you’re capable of enjoying with your new HDR TV. But I’m willing to be surprised.

Adrian, given that ^ and since you seem to exhibit more of an affinity for snowboarding than the most popular sport in the world or two-wheeled motorized action…..enlighten us, do you think there would be much of a quality of imagery value in shooting and delivering a future event like this in HDR as opposed to SDR, be it live or on Ultra HD Blu-ray, or not?

I agree, the standardisation of the HDR specs have somewhat muddied the waters however I am sure next month at CES all will become clear. Having have also made the jump to immersive sound and I cannot wait to experience more of it next year on UHD Blu-ray

Well sound is important too and you never know….outside of your home theater, someday you may be tempted to upgrade a secondary device (TV) with a newfangled HDR TV in one of the other rooms of your residence.

Adrian, no on-topic reply?

Well I realize this isn’t something you can imminently spend your money on, but I’ll help you understand the significance….to the answer of this question....

GoPro HD X Games 15 - Snowboarding Big Air - YouTube
Namely, it Is not just relevant to snowboading per se, but is of paramount importance to all good HDR

Carefully think the concept through though, as …….

If interested but don’t have a pass, I would suspect that somebody’s selling them on either ebay or craigslist by now.

Better hurry.

neuroscience but as it pertains to dynamic range ->LA Times newspaper story - http://www.latimes.com/business/la-e...adbpr=15851618

Now Poppy, since you’re of Johns Hopkins pedigree don’t just be a ‘celebrity’ neuroscientist but submit the work for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

Of Note: Given that some of thee above content qualified as source material for the materials and methods portion of the investigation of HDR deployment by a multi-billion dollar corporation, then I’d say it’s of good enough quality to merit a look-see.

P.S.
The very last preview clip (bottom row, left) should eventually get fixed when people gets the time.
To the bolding ^ from the 12/3/2015 post above.
The 4K(UHD) clips on the bottom row are now fixed.

It warms my heart that the new Star Wars film is shot on film. Can't wait for the 4K release. Hopefully more films I'll follow this route and film stays put for the long run.

I don't want to be rude, but I must disappoint You
Sure the movie was shot on film stock (or film negative) But it was finished digitally - so it is DCI Intermediate - not actually film stock. I'm curious on what resolution was done the Visual and Special Visual Effects - 2K or 4K?
And the most important question: it will be possible in the future to make 8K blu-ray version from that materials (Treat the last line as a joke of course )

tap the breaks.

Amazing Spider-Man 1/2 both were mastered in 4K and released in 3D.

There's obviously no 3D 4K, but they can master for both.
