Does that one mean anything? Were ranks self-chosen back in the day?

Ranks weren't self-chosen as in you could give yourself a title, but some of us did receive special titles when requested. That practice was stopped years ago and won't be returning.

As far as I know, anyone can post anywhere - but I believe, at first, you can't start threads. I don't remember having to have posts "approved" when I was new, but as long as you're not being a jerk it shouldn't be a problem or last long. While the ranks are mostly for prestige, you'll find that some/many vets will have less patience with know-it-all newbies - as well as some Mods. All of this conjecture stands - awaiting correction by a vet who knows better.

There is no question that prior to becoming a Mod my posting frequency was much higher. We both likely would have hit 40,000 by now.

Back then I would spend most of my time in the HT Galleries & Audio section. probably because I wanted to have a nice sound system for my movies. Now I spend a lot of time reading about movies as to whether I want to buy them or not.
