Is it really such a stretch to believe that a Warner title doesn't stack up to Blu-ray's best of the best? I've set my expectations lower than I would like, but hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised. If it's on par with 300 I'll be satisfied.

well, i have the same hdmi cable that i watched all my other blu-ray movie`s. and there all fine. so it aint the cable.

just saying that the quality`s not as good as hoped, like i say, dead mans chest. i wonder if it because warner have used the same video for hd-dvd as well as blu-ray, as they often do.

watched planet earth after and that looked great, so must be how it`s encoded.
i`m not saying it`s a poor picture, just it don`t have that WOW factor like some blu-rays have.

If we are talking Ocean's 13 quality I'll take a dump on the WB HP discs. Its not right for them to keep shoving crappy quality discs at us. Now if the Harry potters are "License to Wed" Wb quality, they will look good.

The DVD's for the most part are decent, so they should all look pretty good. Like I said before, if they're 300 good, I'll be happy.

FWIW, more than a few people commenting on Ocean's 13 were saying it looked crappy in the theatres as well, so it may have something to do with the way it was filmed. I haven't seen it, so I don't know.

yeah, I guess it was the way it was filmed, but it just looked bad either way.

I saw some of the scenes from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on bluray some days ago and I was very disapointed. In my eyes it did not look like HD at all. The picture wasn't sharp, there were a lot of grain and it was hard to see the details in the picture. I am very disappointed and this could be the worse movie I have in my bluray-collection. But then again, I did only see a couple of scenes maybe the rest of the movie looks great.

I did also check the new Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and it looked far better.

Well, I just wanted you to know.

Hopefully it was just those scenes for our sake. A couple others that have gotten the Blu versions already have said they had very good PQ. Time will tell.

odd. initial buzz on the other discs seems to be pretty good. maybe directorial decision on the part of alfonso cuaron?

in which case, imo, this is YET another reason why he shouldn't be allowed to direct any of the remaining HP movies.

Agreed. I bought Order of the Phoenix couple of days ago, not too impressed with the PQ at all, picture just doesn't seem to have the detail/crispness of other movies I have like Spiderman trilogy or POTC, although to my shame I only have a 26" Panny but other movies look great on it...disappointed.

Well there we have it - Two people with 1 post to their name slating the Harry Potter transfers! Very intereseting indeed.......

Anyway, I've just finished watching the first one, Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone and it was fantastic. Obviously It's not the best blu-ray on the market compared to some of the newer digital-to-digital transfers, but for the most part it's stunning and a must have for fans of the series.

Some of the darker scenes can be a little soft but overall I'd say 4/5

Suspicious that 1 time posters are flaming the potters. I am hearing that they look great, not excellent like the top end sony/disney stuff, but way above par of what warner usually throws our way. Also, all 5 has LOSSLESS pcm tracks. I am buying all 5 seperately.

Admittedly I probably would have bought them anyway---but PCM means never having to think I'm sorry.

Edit: I wonder where all our new posters are reporting from?

Okay, great to hear that Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone was fine.

I do also own Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on HD-DVD and that is one of my best HDDVD-movies. If it is great on bluray I will buy that one too (Just to hear the PCM-soundtrack).

Maybe I was just unlucky with those scenes I chose from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban but to me it looked more like a dvd-version than a Bluray-disc.

I ordered the set from Warner.com when it was first made available on their website and I just received an authorization charge for the boxed set today. I live in the US, by the way. Maybe I'll get 'em early (crosses fingers).

mmm, one time poster ay. been reading this forum since day one. don`t have a great deal of blu-rays, but what i do have i love to bits.

just that, i looked forward to order of the phoenix for some time, and been amazed at the quality of my other blu-rays. so for such a resent film it wasn`t up to the same standed as other recent movie. got to say, road warrior looked better. and thats like 30 years old.

i will give it a second chance tonight. but the picture did look good, just not crisp, pop and wow.

Here's what I read...

I smell something. It seems to be coming from a bull too. Sorry I do not believe people are getting HP OOTP. Warner has not shipped an blu ray copies out to any retailers yet. Now If you said a week before you got it than I would believe you. Right now a month before hand yah right, not going to happen. Warner would sue/fine the person selling it with days and wonder how they got a copy from something that hasn't be shipped yet.

It's already in release in at least several European countries.
